WoW nice, so Alienware will be the new highend line in gaming for dell and takes place beside the xps m1730 and "XPS" is more meant to become a premium-lifestyle-appleish-multimedia-branch of their products?

I wouldn't call the XPS M1730 a cheap gaming rig. I bet their 420 style desktop which are pretty cheap and a lot of the time have awesome deals will remain an integral part of the Dell XPS line.

Oh sorry I misinterpretted as they were basically chopping out heavy gaming GPUs from the XPS line.

they are. They are keeping the xps line just not the hardcore gaming ones like the m1730 which directly competes with alienware. THe m1330 laptop is still more of a basic laptop that doesnt compete with alienware so they will keep those computers. XPS is going to be around, just not as a gaming platform.

That's not correct, this was basically the rumor that the WSJ started. But Dell issued a statement saying that they were going to maintain their XPS line but be more involved in Alienware.

personally if i was making the decisons i would close down alienware and focus on xps. sure its heartless, but my goal would be to have a dell branded system in every home, i would also attempt to buy out everything except apple.

I hope Dell starts overseeing the Alienware QA and issues it's own warranties on Alienware products (like accidental damage coverage and such).

    YOu read my mind exactly.
If dell can take over the AW Onsite and Complete care. I am sur eyou will see more people jump to AW. That dell warranty(say what you will) is the best I have come across. We have Gold coverage through work and it's hands down the only way to go.

Same here. My refurb(scratch/dent) XPS M1730 came with a few scratches and an LCD display with a few stained pixels (looked like dirt under the LCD glass). Fortunately I picked up Dell's 3-yr Complete Care plan. I contacted XPS Premiere Support, and they overnighted all the parts and sent an onsite tech over to install them. There were a few incorrect parts sent, and the tech had to make a few visits, but in the end, it was all worth it. I now have a souped-up M1730 that looks completely new.

My previous laptop was a Dell XPS M1710 which worked fine, but this year I wanted something smaller with a high-def screen. I actually started shopping for the M15x first, but when the AW tech told me that they had no accidental damage warranty plan, that took the M15x our of my contention list.

If AW's warranty support gets turned over to the XPS Premiere Support Team, then I'll definitely start looking at AW laptops again once the M1730's useful lifespan is up.

i still fiond this factor as a major turn off. While orriginally searching for a laptop i though "hey! AW has been bought out by dell! i bet they have accidental coverage now!" i was wrong.....

the ONE thing that would really help on AW sales is if they can include transferability of their warranties.

so the money spend to buy AW is wasted! for short term, sure your opinions will be good, but long term awh
