I know its not blatently obvious but after having so many replacements, i have scrutinised for anything that I think is not right with it...i know its not a major thing either as its cosmetic but I think that at this level of laptop, its obviously designed to be flush so it should be.

Would be interesting to hear how many other people have the same as us or if theres is flush on both sides....

And yes, the hinges are solid and so is the screen so it is purely cosmetic from that viewpoint.

Yep I can definitely feel where your coming from. Thanks for pointing that cosmetic defect out to me. I would never have seen it otherwise. I will definitely look out for stuff like that from now on.
Yeh I would definitely like to hear from others and how theirs look.

Looking forward to hearing what your REP has to say in the next email. Oles ;) :D

Hows the rest of the system doing now? Did you get both systems flashed with the new vbios and drivers?

    Good Luck mate! :)

    Cheers.

<--- Read my prior post, it got lost as the last post on the page. This hinge misalignment is just one symptom of several hardware issues. Would not bother me if there was nothing else wrong with the laptop at all but.... Good luck Stevie :D

I forgot... my laptop doesn't have the misalignment. I just checked to make sure because my M11X does have worse alignment issues at this time.

I did some "number crunching" prior to agreeing this latest replacement (no.4) and did ask my rep "what discount can you arrange off a brand new order?"

He said thats up to sales, so i called sales (guy who took my original order) and he said that max would be a poxy 3%....I dont know if i can push that up by having another go but here lies the problem.

Current cost of my 4th build = £3275
    Refund I would get £2200

Maths? - I dont think AW sales would offer me a 30%+ discount as thats what they would have to do to enable me to buy the exact spec i have in my 4th system.

No overhang on the M17X... Darn sorry about the refund vs replacement. I keep saying #4 was the good one, but I'm wrong it's the one before THIS one that I'm thinking was the best of the bunch. I just keep getting confused as to what number this laptop you have now is.  :D
Take a deep breath and call them back. You can return a replacement for up to a week in the UK, may want to check me on that one. Good Luck

Hey again guys! No real updates on my end, except that it has been over a week since the replacement went into production, with no word from Dell whatsoever, and the order status page still saying "Parts Ordered". I'm a little worried, but probably just impatient. ;)

Any suggestions from anyone who has gone through the whole replacement process?

EDIT: For the record, Dell has told me it will be a brand new system, not refurbished, so maybe that plays a part in how long it takes to leave production?

I know how you feel hey. eheheheheh ;) Time goes soo slowly during this process lol.

Give it a couple more days if you can stand it lol. eheheh otherwise call in and ask them what exactly is happening atm. Where and how your system build is coming along. See if they can get someone on the line who can talk to you about it. The online status is a hard thing to go by sometimes. Sometimes it won't update properly for a couple of days and you will have the system on the way to you already eheheheh.

But yeh give em a ring or fire an email to your rep if you like. Just a gentle nudge nudge ey eheheheh ;) :D

I remember the 1st time i ordered it took them like 3 days to build my system. I noticed that they even worked over the weekend. Or at least it seemed like it. I know some overseas countrys do work on sundays and have fridays off instead. So something like that.
However with my other machine I noticed it took about 5 or 6 days for the build process to complete.

    Cheers.

Well here's a funny story: called up Dell earlier today, and the rep who answered my call told me that Dell's estimated "latest arrival date" at this point was October 22nd. I almost choked right there on the phone--totally not acceptable, as far as I know and have read on here about replacement processes and all that fun stuff.

So I called Alienware a few hours later, and the rep I spoke with told me something completely different. He wasn't able to get me in touch with someone right on the processing line or anything, but he assured me that I would receive the system before the end of this month. Whew! So according to him, shipping will take 2-3 days total, and at this point with almost 7 whole business days since the order was first placed as "in production," I should be getting a ship notification soon!

Yeeeeeessshh! Talk about communication issues.. two different reps have two very different takes on what is happening with the replacement system.

    Thanks Infernia,

Looks like I was quite correct to pick out the misalignment, especially if your M17x doesnt have it....i had thought to myself, am i being too hyper critical here but then again i did correct myself pretty quickly by reminding myself how much i paid for it in the first place assuming the fact that it SHOULD be the mother of ALL POWERFUL laptops....perfection is something i think the majority of Alienware customers expect so i dont feel guilty for wanting perfection - after all, we all paid for it.

I have been offered ANOTHER replacement (all brand new etc) but with the same spec as no.4 - no offer of any further recompense after having to go through 3 months hell with Alienware.

I kinda expected some additional "sweeteners" to soften the blow of no.5.....not forthcoming from my rep.

The options are limited atm for me...its either a refund (which due to the previously mentioned discrepancy in me reordering a system of the same spec is not an option.....i coulndt even build my original for what they would refund me due to the fact they dont see the offers i originally had that arent on anymore) or atm, an exact replacement of system no.4

I tell ya, i am seriously regretting buying Alienware in the first place and if someone in the street asked my advice on buying one, I would have to say "i wouldnt bother if I were you, they build inconsistent systems and dont care about their customers"

But then who would give you free upgrades for whatever reason? Not hp(envy), not sony, only dell would. Didn't you already get a bump on your cpu as well as addtional 1 yr warranty? That's one hell of a upgrade they gave you. I literally broke my envy in two pieces after spending months of dispute with hp and went as far as small court claims. They didn't care.

WOW! Where to start? Overhang!?!?! A little. About the same as stevies. But a slight push on the opposite corner and BOOM!!! It's fixed. Maybe they are built with a little flexability for the twisting and turning that happens with a laptop.
Second-That is a SWEET system you have. Sure you wanna give it up for a cosmetic issue as trivial as an 1/8 of an inch? But, you also hade some hardware issues I know. Tough decision for you! Maybe #5 will work out. No offence-but it sucks to be you. Maybe AW is following this thread and just playing a horrible practical joke on you by sending you ALL the rejects. I know-not funny.

@superkyol-You can track your order. Setup an account and put the order # in and it will tell you the specs and all. If it's been ordered, they have generated a packing slip or tech sheet. Went through the same thing on mine.

@ Anodize - yeah i did get some bumps after my 1st sytem went wrong but i am now staring donw the barrels of number 5.....i think that deserves recognition in itself....how many times shoud i have to go through this without any compensation? - lost track of the hours i have spent which = lost money for me as I am self employed and time is money. Sure, maybe HP wont do that but then again, you dont pay that much for a HP or a sony. You pay for an Alienware, cream of the crop - i expect nothing less than perfection as HP and Sony do NOT manufacture supposed thoroughbred gaming laptops like Alienware advertise as being "all powerful".

@ pmassey - yeah, i understand what you are saying...like i said before, i AM a perfectionist and if its not right, its not right - end of story. I dont pay thousands for "oh, its almost right - live with it" kind of service. If Alienware want to charge premium prices (which they do) then they should be prepared to back it up with a premium product which ahs zero faults whatsoever.

Yeah, i may have to give up a sweet system but at the end of the day, im not prepared to take second best for nobody. Its a prinicpal thing.

AW certainly is not known for its build quality. Take a look at the Sony Z and you'd know instantly. Not saying it shouldn't be perfect, but it is certainly not the best quality one can expect. Everything(except for crucial components) is made through OEM in China.

I paid about $2000 before tax for my envy and another couple thousands in filing for small court claims and send letters through my lawyer. I ended up breaking the system. Go figure. :(

They gave you the 820(+$300 option) instead of 720 and another year on warranty($200). That's one heck of a deal they gave you if you ask me.

Stevie - you seem to run in circles a refund on what you paid for the first system paid to Dell is fair, forget the specials they gave you at the time they do not count. And this I deserve more gets old. We all understand wanting a perfect system and thats your right. But it looks like its not in the cards for you. Higher powers say you dont get one. At this point you really should take the refund and buy something youll be happy with. I dont speak for the rest, but I get a little irradiated when you go back to bashing Alienware. :( After all I spent just as much money and time, and like to think I made a good decision. Its hard to believe your more concerned with sweeten my deal than all I want is a good system. I told my rep I'd take a down grade gladly for a good working system, maybe thats why they helped me so much.

@Anodize - im not about to start comparing manufacturers but this AW is built far better as it is than my previous sony FW laptop. That was cheap and plastic and the AW is solid nd robust and well thought out. All in all an excellent laptop I would say. Cant pass comment on your experience as I dont know the full story but suffice to say that you felt strongly enought to take it to court. All I am saying is that you felt the need to take things as far as you could and so do I.

@Wolf - the onl circles that are being run here are the ones by Dell around me as a customer. Just as it looks like "its not on the cards" doesnt warrant that I should settle for second best does it? - Why should I take a refund when I havent done anything wrong? - surely its up to to Dell to put things right and not for me to be fobbed off with a refund and told to "go away".
Again, I dont know your full story but I think a degree of misunderstanding is going on here - I think that YOU think I am out for lots of freebies which isnt the case. All I am after is proper acknowledgent of a further TWO faulty systems. Yes, its great that I got some upgrades for the first debacle BUT as it is now dragging on to system number 5, I did kinda expect that Dell would acknowledge this.
You are right though - a working system is paramount and I would have been happy with this latest once had it not been for its issues BUT because it DOES have issues, I dont see why I should throw in the towel, let Dell WIN and have me walk off with a refund. Maybe its cos in my mind, the reposibility of this lies at the foot of the manufacturer - I simply took out a contract of sale for goods which have yet to be provided in perfect working order. I have the right to be upset and demanding to a degree. I am NOT asking for a maxed out system, purely an acknowledgement of the ADDITIONAL stress and inconvienience that I have had to endure AGAIN.

Sorry if we seem to see things differently but I put the reposnsibility squarely on the shoulders of Dell to put things right. At this point, Im not happy to simply walk away after 3months of hell with what works out at LESS than what I gave Dell to start with.

    That aint right!!

So, anyone know of issues with Everest? My GPU2 shows 99% all the time. Wonder if it's jacked up?

Not sure but maybe that would explain my low Vantage scores HERE. Post 47.

EDIT:Nevermind. Installed ATI Tools and now it reads correctly. Another issye though-I seem to think benchmarks are low(referenced above). And when I run Unigine Heaven, which is what the AW techs will tell you to DL and run, it is slow and choppy and framerates are around 14-17fps. Anyone else know if this is normal? Might be calling Dell/AW tomorrow. Just seems like it ain't right.

@Stevie- all I can say is that honestly, I would take whatever system they are willing to send. You have gone through 3 months of hell, and 4 (looking at 5) systems now. Yes, that is a ridiculous amount of hassle, but at the end of the day, you do have the option of asking for a refund and at this point in time with your case they'd give it to you. "Acknowledging" you've gone through hassle does not mean that any upgrades need be thrown in. The fact that they've sent you 3 laptops after your first purchase IS acknowledgement of your problems and the fact they're trying to help.

Some of us haven't even gotten that yet, despite trying (as in my case) for twice as long. I've been at this since the beginning of this year, and as of yet still haven't even been offered a replacement. To be blunt, I would happily trade places with you and at least have the chance of getting a system with the same (let alone better) specs as the one I paid for that works. I think what is putting some people off (or at least coming across in such a way) is that what you are exactly asking for with regards to 'acknowledgement' of what you've gone through is unclear.

I do hope things work out for you, but do have to say that at some point you might just have to cut your losses- sometimes that is the way the cookie crumbles, and it sucks for people like you and me. But if Dell has been that bad, then do the most damning thing you can do to them: get a refund, take your business elsewhere, and file something with the BBB. Other than that though, blokes like you and I don't have very big levers to use against companies like Dell, and sometimes the cards just don't fall your way.

Best of luck mate- wherever this debacle leads.

PS- still no update on my end. Just twiddling my thumbs building models... :)

Pmassey - saw your post to late to catch you on. I have Heaven 2.0 and reran it last night. Got the following.
    On DX10 screen 1200
    FPS 47.3
    SCORE 1190
    Min FPS 19.6
    Max FPS 92.3
you seem to be running on one card not CF, I remember having that problem in the beginning. I ran it with the spec's below, try running HWINF032 instead of Everest. Looks like you have a card disabled or a bad o  ne hope this helps.

I was thinking of you recently and hoping your case was moving... in some sort of direction. Hang in there! my case took 6months to resolve and I got offered a refund at the last possible minute. As in the last day. I paid 4874 for the original Area51 so I was ecstatic I could have the money back.
And no offense Stevie, but I too would read this very thread and WISH I could have the problems others were having with minor issues. So, I am really rooting for you Praetorian, to make it through this with a smile in the end. A little post traumatic stress  but a smile just the same.
That is why I have a big smiley in my sig. Two of us on this thread were being treated really badly by AW so we sort of made a deal to put a smiley when we finally got resolution. Eventually and through much undue stress we both found our smiles. I hope you get there too. :)

Stevie - In this I will defend you. You have multiple hardware issues with this latest machine. Rattling BDROM, noisy gpu fan on one side which is indicative of an ailing fan. So for this laptop the hinge misalignment is a minor problem. trust me I wish my M11X had just that small amount of hinge issues. Still the other issues make this laptop a possible problem in the future. I wish you luck on the next one. And if I see any deals on the UK site in the next few days I'll PM you. I like to hunt up deals even if it's for others. Gives me something less stressful to do than trying to get this programming code to work. I hate syntax. Just remember to pick your battles and cut your losses, plus know when it's time to do either or both. Though it may seem wrong, in the customer's rights sense of it; the fact that Dell is giving you a replacement again, gives me hope that they are really moving in a positive direction.

Wolf - you've been in this thread long before I and you've seen a lot in here. I feel ya. I remember my utter disappointment when my replacement system failed. Even if it was just another Area51 i wanted it to work so badly. Wolf, you remind me of an ER doctor who's seen way too many serious cases.
You still have the best advice in here and you care enough to check this thread on a daily and help out everyone who posts. I just want you to know that I'm glad you're still here and thank you. ;)
**EDIT** sorry for taking up so much real estate with this post. Pmassey, I am going to bed but I have those benchmarking programs installed and will run them tomorrow when i get home. Give you some more numbers to compare.

Hey, if you cant see the whole reason for fighting with Dell after so many systems then your obvioulsy happ to settle for less yourself - that I cannot help you with my friend - if thats the kinda person YOU are, the kind that settles for less than "spot on" then thats fine, personally, I am not like that.

Afterall (and I keep saying this) 5 systems - not 1 or 2, FIVE - within 3 months!! - dont turn around and tell me that you WOULDNT be asking for more if it were you - DONT tell me that you would be hapy with a less than perfect system cos if you say you would be, I would say you would either be kidding yourself or you would be happy to take second best when you are entitled to more than second best.

You seem to be making me out to be solely after additional system upgrades for my troubles which isn the case. I have genuine issues with this system now (granted they are not as bad as other people have had with more serious issues but they are issues nonetheless and they are important to me)

Not to belittle the next guys problems but I did read on one of these threads about an owner who was returning a system becasue "the white light" his keyboard was emitting along with the other white illumination was "not white enough!" - thats what I call overkill to a degree.

@Infernia - thanks for you support, appreciate it and all you have done! - I am hoping to hear some news later on today but i wont hold my breath. Will post back later.

In that case, I'll be straight forward. I think you're delusional to think that you're settling for less after getting those upgrades. Put yourself in the corporate's point of view. No, things don't work like that. Would you just give $1000 worth of upgrades because your customer had to go through 5 brand new replacements? After giving out $500+ in upgrades already? I highly doubt it.

Nobody said what you are doing is wrong. It's natural that you want a perfect working machine for your money, but I found it funny that you're asking for upgrades even before receiving your replacement(yes, I know, another replacement). What are you looking to get exactly? Honestly, I know there is no end to one's desire, but this is too much, imo. Get a working system or get a refund as infernia suggested. You're just testing how far they are going to go for you.

Are you sure you dont work for Dell lol :D

Cant really say anymore than i already have done about things....we each have our own ideas about how we should be treated, you may hold lower standards than I hence our difference in opinion here.

I do expect that because I have had more replacement systems than I would say anyone here, yes, Dell should be looking to do something.

I have never held a gun to Dell and demanded things, I have asked nicely and kept respect where its due for what I have already received. Thats not the argument here, you are missing the point completly.

The point being is that I have had a further 4 systems since the original upgraded specs were agreed (something that took me weeks and lots of hard work to arrangbe in the first place - they werent handed out to me like confettit unlike some other people have had on this thread)

Im not asking for Dell to max out my system although i have seen it done for owners on this thread (people getting 940xm's from R1 systems with 9000's etc etc)

I am simply asking for ANY acknowledgemtn that would benefit my system regardless of how small or insignificant - to me thats a way of apologising again for even more hassle i have had to deal with.(you may say they have done that already which to a degree, yes BUT not for the last few returns i have had to make)

To me, actions speak louder than words, Dell can apologise to me over the phone and by email all they want to and yes, thats all very nice but when it comes to EXPRESSING their apologies, i feel the only way for them to do that is in a tangible way - hence what im saying here.

If you dont agree with my approach then thats fine, just dont keep repeating over and over again that you think i am asking for too much, its getting kind of tedious hearing it from you.

    End of another rant.

I have to agree with anodize: it's kind of preposterous to expect anything more from Dell than a system that works and does what it was designed to do. Hell, I have some overhang and some spaces in between parts of the keyboard/palmrest layout, I have since day one. It bugged me at first but it's purely cosmetic.

The fact is, the system you have right now is pretty much top of the line, with exception to the processor. Complaining about people with Q9000s getting 820QMs is pretty selfish and unnecessary. I was fortunate enough to have such an upgrade, but I had been dealing with hardware malfunction and DPC latency issues for almost the entire time I've had this system (close to 10 months now)--not to mention that an in-warranty service call actually toasted my computer at one point, and it wouldn't start for about 2-3 weeks while I waited for a motherboard replacement. I didn't ask for any upgrades, just a new, non-refurb Revision 2 system, and what I got was generous and very appreciated. Sure, it's not my fifth replacement, but there can't be something inherently wrong with every Alienware laptop or they wouldn't be selling.

Oh, and I don't work for Dell--just in case you decided to question my motives for backing them up.

So, its ok for you to get considerable upgrades but not others because of your issues? - each persons issues are specific to them, you warrant yourself worth of what you have as you have just said so. I have had hardware issues and still have hardware issues, Ive had hardware issues since day 1 with my 1st system....you think im whinging about a few minor cosmetics but im not. How do you judge who gets what? - in your own eyes, your worthy of an 820 but the next guy isnt simply becasue he hasnt had 10 months of it? - gimme a break here. Its all gravy for some of you folks to sit there and tell me not to try for more and that im being selfish and i should shut up and get on with it.

One of the MAJOR things that really narcks me is that when R1 owners complain about the specs for their replacements (in some cases, people have BOUGHT refurb R1's and are given BRAND NEW R2's with significantly improved specifications to their previous systems.....ive seen people getting this kind of replacement with xtreme cpu's in exchange for q9000's / 4gb up to 8gb / 1440 up to beyond hd / big gpu upgrades and they still have the gall to wail and whinge - dont get me wrong, i am really happ for those people as chances are they deserve it. However, when people like myself who actually PAID for an R2 get things going wrong, we are deemed to be greedy JUST beacuse we PAID for an R2 with good specs - it shouldnt matter if i have a top of the line R2 or not -simply as i have a good system initially does not warrant your logic.

If you are HAPPY to live with cosmetic imperfections then thats YOUR business - I personally dont expect ANY imperfections when lashing out thousands on a high end system. None - zero -nadda - not a sausage. END OF STORY. If you (or anyone else for that matter) are happy to spend you thousands and not get the very best, then your more foolish than your words portray.

I fully appreciate your own issues and the issues of others too believe it or not. I havent had to endure 10 months and repairs and such forth like you have but mine has been a different kind of stress. Each time thinking that this one will be the one....then more faults, more issues and it keeps repeating over and over hence my utter dismay at looking for a 5th replacement.

Just because my system is pretty good (thanks ;) ) doesnt mean that it doesnt warrant any further recognistion on Dell's behalf - AND I AM NOT BASHING DELL as what they have offered thus far HAS been appreciated. All (and i keep saying this) i would expect is further recognition that they have sent me another 3 dud systems since 1st specs were agreed.

Some people get flexible reps, reps over in the US seem more understanding towards owners than Europe. Thats why some people get monstrous upgrades and some dont.

In my defence, Dell NEVER offered me much in way of recompense initially, I was offered 2gb and that was it. It was thanks to Infernia that I was able to "negotiate" a better deal for myself (current spec). Dell Europe were very inflexible about my system and still remain so. My rep initially told me that 2gb was all i would get as the cost was prohibitive to do more. No offer of anything further, I spent days trying to work things in my favour - It was only possible to get what i have now thanks to Infernia as IT WAS ME who had to approach Dell with a quote from sales based on a discounted system build from the UK website, IT WAS ME that had to do all the leg work to get myself current specs - THEY WERE NOT HANDED TO ME!

I was given a "threshold budget" to build a system with - that was based on cost of my original PLUS the 2gb upgrade Dell offered me. I only got what i got now as I had to crunch the numbers, sweet talk the sales guys for the best deal (on the basis that i was a new customer) then send my rep the quote. Then emailed to the rep and my build fell within budget ONLY because of discounted deals.
Point being here is that my rep could have easily offered me the SAME deal that i had to WORK REALLY HARD to get, but he didnt. He asked me what I would like, I told him 820/6gb/2yr wrrnty and he laughed and said no chance yet because of Infernia's help and advice, and the fact that he had given me a budget to operate within, when i came back with figures that matched his but gave me an 820/6gb/2yr warranty, there was nothing he could argue as I had built the system within his parameters.

Now, you call that "going out of his way to help me???! - i dont think so - I am the one who has had to do it all for myself - its aint like Dell handed it to me on a silver platter like some people get from reading these posts.

Maybe now you get a slight understanding of my own case.....and why i feel the need to fight for everything.

My last bone of contention with them was over cpu. They were building number 4 for me with 820qm, 840qm had just been released in the UK, I asked if I could have that instead...bear in mind the difference is ZERO in cost....what dya think i waas told? - i was told NO. Figure that one out if you can? - why they couldnt opt for the slightyl better cpu is beyond me as it was the same price via dell UK website.

Maybe now you can see how and why I feel strongly about things - especially when people over in the US get handed out 920's (not 820's) and 940's from in exchange from FAR inferior cpu's in older systems.

Would you think that and upgrade from an 820 to an 840 is being outrageous here on my behalf??? - if so, then think again. Intel price difference is $22 between the two, Dell charge the same price yet they wont provide me with the better one of the two even after all my troubles.....

And you WONDER why I get mad
    Sorry for the long rant.....

It's all part of being a consumer, stevie. From Dell's point of view, you could be just anybody looking for free handouts. The problem lies in the fact that there are thousands of customers with AW, and many of them may be doing what you did but for their own benefit, while having no serious issues with their systems at all. You can't expect a large corporation to simply take you on your word; sometimes you have to do a little legwork. I understand your predicament but these things happen in all aspects of business and consumerism.

In short: it's not just you, and sometimes you need to take what you can get and run with it.

They dont have to take my word for it...they can examine the systems i have had to return for proof. Enough said. Regarding cutting and running, it is easy for you to say that as you really have a sweet exchange going on there with your "new hotness"...not saying you havent earned it through your issues in the same breath.

And yes, I DO expect a large corporation to take me on my word....why shouldnt I? - I mean, im not putting myself through this because I get kicks out of it for god sake man!!!

To be fair, I haven't even received my replacement yet, and have no idea what how will actually perform. Again, comparing your replacement system specs and what you've received to others' situations isn't really helping your cause. If you intend to continue escalating your case with Dell, I suggest you do so without dragging other community members through the dirt. It is a privilege, not a right, to post here and request help from others, and I am only trying to show you that there are in fact two sides to every story--even yours.

@steviejones-I get it! I really do. I AM one of the refurb'ed to new with MAJOR upgrades. And I'm sure when you see that it is more than frustrating to you. So I see your side.

Yet I also see what others are saying. You seem to have purposed by now-not saying it is wrong-to find ANY fault, big or small, and make it a major issue. My upper lid was 'off' just like yours but I didn't even notice. Does it affect the operation or functionality of the computer??? That is what you NEED to ask yourself when finding these issues. Hardware that may be 'off', may not be as big of an issue that you are making it to be. Understand???

You pay for a BMW, you want one, not a Yugo. We all get it. But we ALL could nit pick every computer apart and find 'issues'. Not saying yours are not legit, but the majority of people wouldn't even notice the 'lip overhang' issue.

Now if hardware-GPU, DVD drive, screen-affect the performance or usage-then you have legitimate argument(s) for complaints. Just my $.02.

Let's not get into country bashing. I know you weren't, but it'll lead there if someone reads it wrong.

Well said pmassey - im not bashing any country, sorry if thats how it looked, i was merely saying as it seems UK / US have their own respective "department" that deal with these issues, there is a degree of disparity between the two, thats all.

Did i not already state that system no.4 isnt just the lid issue, its also a really flexy keyboard, noist right gpu fan, combo drive makes more noise than previously.

And yes, I do scrutise things now as I KNOW i wont get redress for them if I dont "shout up" about them....If you were on new car number 5, you would be checking for paint chips, everything im sure....maybe some people arent bothered but then thats some people for you - it would and DOES bother me if there is something I dont feel is right...it may not hinder perormance but if i hadnt said anything about the lid issue, it would bug me forever looking at the lappy thinking, hmmmm....im sure that aint right...if i kept my gob shut about it, i would never forgive myself for not bringing it to someones attention.

Same goes for the gpu fan - its probably bearable, but becasue its there, it is cause of concern to me, especially as this is a brand new laptop. It may be an indicator of problems to come which I would, myself, like to avoid.

So yes, I understand what you guys are saying...just see things from my point of view like you have tried to is all im asking here....im sure most people if put in my shoes would be just as irate and just as festidious

True, and im not having a go at ANYONE who has managed to get a good system out of Dell for all their issues - it really is great that alot of people have really benefited from the system and its great that Dell DOES acknowledge these things - it does make them a great manufacturer in that respect - I just wish things were more straight forward instead of having to do all of this - thats the thing that has taken the shine off my system.

Im glad your excited about yours and I REALLY do hope it blows your older one out the water....(they do if they fly right out the box....)

Good luck with it and peace eh? - afterall, I have no beef with ANYONE on NBR - yo uare all great folks!

I don't work for Dell, but for myself. :D
I guess I am not accustomed to getting upgrade every time my system has a problem. That doesn't happen very often, regardless of which company you deal with. That's why I said you need to see this from the other side. What are you going to ask for when you're on your 10th replacement? :p

I apologize if you saw my post as offensive because that's not what I meant. I was simply surprised you wanted more upgrades before getting another replacement which could be just perfect. I guess your time value is different than mine. I, too, wish I could get compensated for every minute lost if that was possible, normally. Good luck with your replacement and all.

Thanks Anodize, hey, and sorry if i may have seemed to have a go at you - i too wasnt!! maybe we should have a group hug lololol

FYI, i have calculated the time I have spent trying to resolve this (time spent on phone/emails/waiting in and it shocked me.....going on what would be my average wage per hour, it works out at around £750 lost due to all of this...thats the time i have had to devote to sorting out system after system...

Another reason why I am kinda upset lol

How do you find out what stage of production a replacement system is at? I've tried asking these guys everything and they just give me strange shifty answers. What should I ask them--should I mention the difference between the build and testing stages?

Now the drama is over remember this thread is to help those
with system problem's get relief from Dell. After all there are those that have no clue what to do or how to do it. This isn't a thread for if you want upgrades or not. Lets keep on track here. and help those that need it, and not so much about our selfs. ;)
