Has anybody checked out the aurora lately? It has the new dark chrome design. Any thoughts? I thought it looked really good, wouldn't mind seeing it in a m17x or m18x.

I saw that, looks really nice all Chrome like that. Not sure about the 200.00 upgrade price  . Seemed a little high, then who as a all shinny desktop? I would pay 100.00 for a m17x.. ;)

Added a poll to the thread. The Dark Chrome would be a nice edition to the standard Black/Red options. I imagine it will be implemented on future mobile systems given they are rolling it out on the desktops.

Just as a reminder, lets keep this focused to laptops only (op is just borrowing the color idea from the desktops). Alienware desktop chat belongs here -

I would definitely like to see it in an m18x/m17x. Unlikely with the m17x/m14x/m11x due to the new soft touch plastic, but i still like the idea in the m18x. It looks like a classy mix of silver and black, which are incidentally my fav colors. Was never huge on red.

Anybody know what it would take to custom make one if dell decides not to add the option?

I'd love it on their laptops.

Maybe this is why they've been phasing out the silver options? (Aside from the fact that it just might not look very good with the soft touch finish.)

It looks sleek and classy. It'd be wonderful on the larger laptops.

I'd like that option too, as well as custom colors like they used to offer pre-Dell. Lime Green FTW! :D

I can see those exotic colors working great on soft touch like the r3 and m14x, etc. But I don't see it working to well with the anodized aluminum, because it wouldn't appeal to as large a crowd as nebula red or chrome or black, and dell cares about $$$. Plus it is a lot more costly to produce aluminum shells than plastic, and if it isn't going to be a sucess, they probably won't implement it :(

Get out the car wax and buffer, I can see my wife when Iam in the backyard buffing my m18x in the sun

I do not find the dark chrome too hip, chrome has a tendency to flake, and is prone to scratches...

If they were using it for smaller models such as the m11x and m14x, I would be in!

I like the idea in theory, but the locations of the chroming would have to have high visibility to make any impact. When that happens, those spots would be fingerprint magnets. As it were, the soft touch of the R3 is bad enough, but streaks in chrome would drive me nuts.

I imagine many an Alienware owner would be sitting wiping the chromed parts clean more than using the machine.

Don't get me wrong. I really like dark chrome. I had a set of dark chromed wheels on my 93 pony and a dark chromed pen. But again, I was cleaning them a lot.

A very valid point. It takes some serious time and dedication to keep chrome clean and looking impressive.
