Well I jinxed the M17x, I no sooner finsh bragging on these forums how great the gen 1 M17x is and I notice that my computer isnt turning on the slave 9800 card. The error code says that the driver can not be loaded on to the card.

I did a driver sweep, installed the original 176 drivers, and nothing. Turned off the pc, removed and reseated the cards and SLI cable, nothing!!!!!!

    Does anyone have an idea?

The good thing is that even one 9800gt is still better than most and I can still play most of my games and still watch blu rays until we figure this out.

I think I might have fried a video card. Do any of you know of a online retailer that stocks and sells these?

you should isolate the issue and try running single on the one you think is dead, even reflash the card to primary if you have to, and then see if you can it going. Bake it if need be, you have nothing to lose.

I shall try that. How do I reflash the card as primary? I tried to pluging the Slave into the master slot with out reflashing it as a primary and got alot of artifacts on the screen. Probably becasue it was not set as the primary. I will bake it at last resort.

I don't have a whole lot of experience in that area but whatever happens don't destroy that card it's still worth something. I mean you can sell as for a hundred or so. I've only used dell M1730 single Card Dual GPU, and the m15x alienware like yours but single. And I just got the R2 with Dual 4870's so this is my first and I hope I don't have any die on me anytime soon.

You have the m17x. Which is about 1.5 years old. Go to alienware.com then support FAQ/Knowlage base then type in

How do I reseat or replace the Master Video Card of the Area-51 m17x mobile system?

It will give you a step by step guide how to reseat the gpu. It would also be good to clean the fans.
