Still trying to decide which model to buy or just configure one from Dell. How much of a difference is there between the 1900 screen and the 1440 screen? I'll be gaming on the laptop with no plans of using it as a bluray player.

Well, isn't one much higher resolution than the other? I suppose it all comes down to what setup you get.... if you get a very fast setup you may want to take advantage of 1900x1200.....

For gaming there won't be a huge noticeable difference. If you've got dual 260Ms or dual 280Ms though, go for the 1920x1200 because there IS a difference when gaming.

This is just my opinion. I don't think gaming need that high resolution. Normally when I play I just concentrate on playing. But I love to watch the cut scenes. Higher resolution gives better details. This is my reason for taking the 1900.. :D

    It's all up to you~

I personally think that the upgrade panels is a no-brainer.... we're talking $150! if $$ is that much of a problem than perhaps an Alienware is not the best options, there are some great options out there.

Always maximum resolution for this notebook. Otherwise, what's the point? I'm surprised a premium company like AW even offer something lower. It's like an option for vinyl seats in a Bentley? It kinda defeats the purpose, don't you think?

Kinda disappointed AW, or many gaming laptop makers too, don't offer LED screens as an option for their gaming notebooks.

Especially with Dell now basically in control, I always thought a M17x with a RGB-LED and other LED options would rock.

Yeah i didnt undertand that either but maybe it will be an option down the road ? .

The other side of the coin might be that the amount of demand for LED screens would have been through the roof and they would not have been able to fulfill all those orders in a timely fashion .

Not like they're filling the orders for the current WUXGA config in a timely fashion as it is lol

Yeah that was my point . As bad as it was/is with WUXGA just imagine LED ?

Again its all speculation but the demand for this machine is through the roof and its a worldwide deal this time around so thats a whole lotta screens :).

    Yep.

Normally, different parts of the world would be using different Dell factories.

Not so with the M17x. We are getting it from one place. So, if this one facility doesn't have panels than we are all SOL :)

I dont know why dell didnt include the RGB option for the M17x? if the XPS can have one, why cant the M17x?

I wrestled with this very subject before ordering one. I already own a PS3 so I dont need a Blu-ray drive for movies. However, as it was explained to me, in the near future more applications as well as games will be offered in Blu-ray format so the investment now would be worth it. As for resolution, well if you're going to get the Blu-ray option, might as well get the most out of it by opting for the 1200p rez. That and of course for gaming. Dont know what video card options you plan to go for. I only got a single 260, so im probably not going to be able to run games with max settings at that rez. One could always lower the rez though.

This may have to do with the separation of AW from the rest of Dell. From what I hear, AW operates autonomously in design decisions.
