I have been having problems with my m15x with a GeForce 8700M GT for several months. Startup takes torturous amounts of time and many programs run slowly or are unable to run. I originally did moderate to serious amounts of gaming, i purchased the labtop to be able to play Bioshock. I beleive that the problem is related to my graphics card but I have been unable to solve it thus far. I have performed every kind of anti-virus and spyware program i can find, I have cleaned my logs and limited my startup and running programs to an absolute minimum. I recently downloaded the newest driver suggested by this forum and still am encountering problems, even trying to run a DS emulatior is too much for my computer. The only ray of hope I have seen so far was yesterday after running an aggressive log cleaner I experienced a few hours of the performance I expect. Thank you for any help or suggestions.

You may have a bad installation. After I got mine, I reinstalled windows and it runs great now. You could try that or check to see the temps of your graphics card. It may be downclocking. What BIOS are you running?

The easiest way to solve this problem is to back up your data and do a fresh install, you'll be running like a ferrari in no time.

I would be willing to do a fresh install of Windows if i thought i was able. I don't beleive I was given the Windows disk I am always told i needed or have just been unable to find it. Is there any way to fix this problem without such means?

do you have alienware respawn cd's or any backup utility?
otherwise you can purchase an oem disk for $100.

do a harddisk scan with "mark all bad sectors" option selected. do you hear jerks while reading/writing data. You can also try running HDTune to benchmark the drive and see what max/min read speed you get.

It should be somewhere 90/40 for a normal 7200 RPM hdd.
