Hi all, I am lost and need some help with a weird issue. I installed (clean) Windows 7 and all the drivers from Batboys blog successfully, deleted the Respawn partition, but, now when I boot up:

When it hits the boot screen that used to say "Press F10 for Alienrespawn 2.0", I get just a blank screen with a flashing cursor and all PC activity immediately stops. At that point I am forced to restart as nothing is active. This freeze only happens every second time the machine boots up. Every other time it starts up, it boots perfectly into the harddrive and Windows 7. Seems to me the command or whatever it is that calls up the Respawn boot screen is still looking for that link or something, but why only every second time?

PS: one other interesting tidbit, from the initial boot screen with the alien head that gives you the boot and bios key options: hitting F12 and selecting booting from the HDD will make it boot everytime as normal, but you have to hit F12 everytime you boot to avoid the freeze every other time. And the topmost option under the F12 boot menu, still gives me the option to run the diagnostics that no longer exist since the partition is now gone. The BIOS boot settings themselves look fine.

I refuse to believe I am the only one who has run into this error, and any help is appreciated :) Does anyone think another clean install would fix this issue?

Hey Witcher, it is gone and absorbed back into another partition, but I did that partition deletion AFTER I clean installed Windows 7 and not before when I was still running Vista. Did you remove your partition before or after your Windows 7 install?

PS: love the avatar. Really pops out at you :)

Try running bootrec.exe /fixmbr when booting from the installation disk and choosing the Repair-> System recovery options - > command prompt. you can also try bootrec.exe /fixboot option

I hear that man, it's not a huge deal, but it is super annoying having to hit the F12 everytime and select the Harddrive manually to make sure it boots. I have reinstalled windows 7, ran every diagnostic and tried everything I can think of.

Maybe I'll reflash my BIOS and try that out tonight. Maybe it will reset the command to call up respawn. I just don't get why it only effects 2 of us out of the hundreds on here who have upgraded :)

well, I think thats a good idea (to reflash). I am just nervous to do it as I have the new ATI's and if something goes wrong...(murphy lives at my house) I will have a brick on my table. After waiting over a month to get it, I would be forced to throw it at the wall! LOL Let me know how you make out...

Hey Lappy, the BIOS flash did the trick. Just rebooted 5-6 times and fired up every time. Looks like you'll have to do the same.

Thanks Aikimox for your help! Your suggestions were much appreciated. +1

You can close this one up Chaz or Batboy. Hopefully it will help someone else if they encounter the same thing.
