ok since the whitebook has been discontinued . AW gets it straight from arima but im sure every one wants to know how we are going to be affected. ocz and all there resellers have called it quits. does any one have any information? it has been confirmed by dark smiley and other white book sellers and ocz

Economy must be hurting them. That laptop was very quick to come and leave the market. Something must be up with OCZ.
I think its the quality. No offense but after OCZ bought PC Power and cooling, I have noticed tremendous price cuts, and a very low quality product afterwards. I cant count how many people are looking for real pc power PSU's not the cheap OCZ rebrands
Not sure about the laptops, but OCZ must be having trouble
K-TRON -
well most whitebook users i have read havent had any problem and i dont remeber any m17 being sent back cept i think 1 at least AW and i havent heard of any white books being sent back....
BTW chaz please leave thisAW user need to know ...there is politics involved now
-
I never said the whitebook was bad, I was just reffering to OCZ dropping quality of their power supplies.
I just checked OCZ's site and it says that the product is no longer available.
K-TRON -
there are no issues with the whitebook. a few of them had some cosmetic flaws but the units were now being inspected before shipping and they were not sending out anything that was flawed. the very early units had some paint issues. this was weeded out pretty fast though. check newegg they still have all of the diy ones for sale also
-
i just wish i knew what was going on. now politics come into place like E said, us AW user will proably play a premium for 4870's and other stuff....i just dont know whats going to happen the balance is upset. But AW needs to come out and say yes they will still be getting them and designing new things etc its what we all want to know
-
what i was told today may be hearsay i have no idea but i was told alienware will not be killing these off soon. they are selling A TON of them from what i was told this is alienware's number 1 seller now, this came from a freind i have at dell
-
cool well i just need one of roswell or AW to get on here and explain this. i thought i would share because alot of AW guys never leave this section of the forum, trying to keep the information flowing
-
E said in the other thread that it wasn't OCZ's fault, but Flextronics', because they shipped OCZ loads of faulty/bad/damaged chassis.
-
That was just a small part of the pie.. I'm not sure exactly what happened. But, I figured it is a combination of thngs.
-
I hope that the 4870 still comes out in the m17
-
I can honestly say that yes Aw will keep selling the M-17. I know the plans go way out this year at least. I work for the mother company of AW and confirmed this last night with a friend down in Miami. Looks Like I will be getting a funny alein head on mine since the others are gone. Trying to find out someone the new GPUs as well. I hope to hear something def today. As soon as I hear something I will let you know.
-
Cool thx keg, I have been waiting for the mobility 4870s to come out for the m17 for months, so it's exciting to hear about possible updates
!
-
I don't know if they are or are not for the M17. We will see I don't want to get anyones hopes up.
-
Ah ok still hoping though

Currently there is no plan in removing this system, we will continue providing support for this machine. At the present time there is no information regarding future changes.

Well since they lowered the price on the M15-17x's, which means the eventual end of production for either the m9750 and them as well, this must mean something new is coming very soon.
Reading the other threads I have a feeling AW bought out the rights to this model leaving OCZ with their pants down. Since the model was spread all over the place it was canibalizing itself by competing against itself. You dont make money making a dozen different varities of the same thing, some sell better than other so why support the weaker seller.
Whatever happens can only mean that yes AW retains the Whitebook, and that something new is going to be coming very soon, since with the new Xfire and W7 and I7 chips demands a new model to house it all in. -

Xotic-PC is still selling the M17.
Don't think I left, I'm still here. It's just kind of hard to post because everything is on the M15x / M17x / M17 which I don't have any experience with obviously. I just read through the posts.
-
I think I read they are just selling off their existing stock of preconfigured machines...
-
Wow it just seems crazy to me to replace something so new! I mean shouldn't they replace the m15x first? I can see the whitebook going away but AW should stick with this for awhile if they can. HOpefully whatever they replace it with still has dual ati and quad core
ON that note I just ordered one of these (minus quad core) can't wait to compare it to my m15x and enjoy it. -
AW Whitebook is not going away, all the other labels are. AW now has exclusive distribution of it.
And logical removal from production for AW would be the 8750, then the 15 and 17x. Im surprised the 9750 has hung in there that long. -
I really need to get some of those xp drivers offered by one of those rebrands!
-
alienware armondo even said these will continue through most of the year so im sure everyone is fine
-
-
Sorry what is Imk?
definitely the e-sata driver
maybe the OSD...
All of them really!
some of the vista drivers on the aw cd do work for xp
but not the realtek wifi -
lmk means let me know
let me see what i can post up for you. -
Cheers

ill post the rest as soon as i get them all and get em uploaded -
ohhhh AW has us by the male genitalia .....im anxious for new models i really hope i dont regret this m17
a new quad core witht the alienfx system and 4870's for the same price
-
trust me with tech today, especially laptops...u will always be disappointed in what u buy...new stuff every month
-
^^^^^^ exactly right either buy it or wait forever
-
i know i love my m17 and i know yall love yours to but, you KNOW you have that feeling ...man what if i got that ...ohhh its the same price
lol thats the feeling i hate ... yea i build pc's all the time and the price drop allways kill me ... its the WHAT IF feeling -
yea but no matter what comes out...it will use the same chipset....so the m17 no matter what can use the same processors and same gpu's...if a new laptop comes out with the best of the best..like qx9300 and dual 4870's....well the m17 can do that also....so we still have the best...just a different looking case
-
well still lol way off topic here but who thinks the 4870's will break 20k with alot of tweakign and muscle? i mean they hit 17k with 3870's.....
-
very possible...especially since a qx9400 is coming out that may clock a little higher...but for gaming only....i dont see why anyone has to upgrade right away to the 4870's....no game needs it except crysis..and that game sucks on ati anyways so why upgrade so fast lol
-
its just the fact 20k is like a barrier ready to be smashed
imma wait for some rich people to get them and see the bench marks and listen to people on NBR first, cuz i work for miniumum wage and im in collage so i cant just drop the money like that .... but if persauded enough i can come up with it
-
same here but thank god im graduating this term and start my internship full time....then im going for dual 4870's....pretty sad goal for being done with college but its my goal lmao
-
LITTLE BABY STEPS lol cant go working full time and no play ... lol i got 3 years left ughh
-
If OCZ was the major distributor for the Whitebook and now they are cancelling it. That would leave all the other labels getting it through OCZ zip.
And if AW did a deal with with Arrima/Flex (The manufacturers) behind OCZ's back to continue it, then I would say simple math that they have exclusive rights.
Could be speculation but AW has stated they will still sell them. -
rumor has it that another company will take OCZ's place in the distribution chain. all you whitebook owners should pray that it won't be Sager.
-
What if it were AW? If they say they would continue the M17, and remember they have the big pockets of Dell to do seal the deal.
-
AW already has an agreement with Flextronics directly. plus, AW's a "boutique brand" that won't sell simple barebones.
-
You can never tell, like I said Dell has the pockets to setup a distribution system. AW can run it, Its all about sales, it a product shows big promise and someone just bows out of the game for some reason, Dell can be there in a snap.
But its all speculation. -

TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
My 2¢: The 4870s are NOT going to be the same price as the 3870s are. That just doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint. Especially now that AW has exclusive rights to the M17.
And unless there are huge changes to the new M17, our current M17 should accept all of the same hardware.
Just to reiterate, why would a notebook with a NEWER quad core, and a HIGHER series of GPU be the same cost?
Yes, the M17 is currently breaking the 17K barrier in 3DMark, but it's PURELY Epeen. There's not single person using their benchmark settings for everyday gaming use. E-Wrecked has even commented that some of his runs can't be duplicated. That's just not real world performance.
I don't really give a crap if the 4870s score 40K, because I'm over the Epeen bulls*it. I want to know what they'll score in an everyday use situation, not what they score with everything overclocked and the FSB all jacked up. -
) is selling far too well to just give it up to AW.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Alienware better not jack up the price on this.
-
agree'd don
-
And where is this talk of a new mobile quad core coming from? -
ok so when AW cleans house any one have any ideas what new laptops will come in? do you think the new core i7 laptop could be sold ,
AW would have to be crazy not to get a core i7 laptop on there site.
