It would help if you post your display driver version/OS. Either the driver needs to be reinstalled (clean install) or you need to try a different driver.
Hardware issues can also cause NV Display driver crashes however since the system is new and we aren't talking about a XPS M1730 with a failing 8800M GTX, then I doubt this would be the cause.
For a clean install of the NV Display driver, the steps are typically:
a. Download and install CCleaner
b. Be sure the BIOS is set to enabled for both HybridSLI and Integrated Graphics
1. Uninstall the Display Driver via the Programs & Features Control Panel. NOTE: The entry is titled 'NVIDIA Drivers'. Highlight it and click uninstall and be sure the checkbox is set to 'Only uninstall Display Driver'. You will be prompted to reboot the system. Do so now.
2. As the system restarts, depress F8 until you see the prompt to enter SAFE MODE.
3. Once in Safe Mode, launch CCleaner and click on the Registry icon. Analyze and allow CCleaner to fix all missing/left over items it finds. Once complete, reboot normally.
4. Allow the system to reboot to the desktop. Windows will load the Microsoft Standard VGA Driver for each GPU. Once this is complete, reboot.
5. Once back at the desktop, run the installer for the display driver you wish to install.
6. After the reboot, you can go back into the BIOS and disable both HybridSLI and Integrated Graphics if you so desire. For an explanation of the different BIOS settings concerning this, see: http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/alienware.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=6079
