Usually I hear people who own an alienware also seem to have a cooling pad of some kind. is this because they will overheat under intense gaming. I know some machines that are not alienware are so powerful that they will get so hot and just shutdown. I was just wondering if this happens with Alienware also or is the cooling pad really just to extend its lifetime.

I was thinking of purchasing a alienware m11x but im scared of random shutdowns.

Well, I don't have a m11x but I do have a m17x and the cooling on this laptop is actually REALLY good.

I use a pad just because I prefer to have that extra cooling ability and if I do decide to overclock I have that extra help.

I was playing with this for quite some time without any type of added cooling and it does just fine with no random shut downs or anything.

I am sure the m11x will be the same, but until we get people with them to test out we can't say for sure (but from what reviews I have read the m11x should have no cooling issues).

The reason the M11X is so thick is to help with the cooling. With the low voltage processor, I doubt it'll overheat. :)

My 17X runs way cooler than my Dell XPS m1730. I have a cooling pad, but I don't need it.
