Do my fellow early adopters of the m15x feel dissapointed?

Im just thinking about the whole m15x situation. Im kind of regreting my purchase. This is why:

    1) free shipping now on alienware systems. so 70 bucks wasted. not big deal, just saying.

    2) 9800m gtx soon. this laptop cant really handle some of the games i tested. FSX and crysis on high graphics with steady frame rates. I feel cheated in this respect kind of.

    3) m15x revision soon. this would probally improve on the several flaws this laptop has.

    a. keyboard respone
    b. plasticy cheap feel
    c. crappy speakers
    d. touch buttons
    e. screen lid noises.

    4) design update resvision that is rumored to be soon. this would fix my design problems with the laptop.

    a. silver and black color. they will probally come out with all black and glossy.
also skullcap. pretty unhappy in that i missed this

    5) price decreases. the m15x already recived a huge price decrease. 1499 plus the upgrades i got. i would have saved about 500 bucks. who knows what further price drops are coming.

its basically just a rant but im pretty dissapointed and regret not waiting. :( im just curious what the other owners think.

I guess I do but mostly due to your third point. The rest were bound to happen sometime in the future and I knew that when I bought it.

However, I never thought the release of M15X I would be buying would be an expensive beta release and we'd have to send feedback (require assistance) to Alienware regarding some basic problems like keyboard response, touch buttons, downclocking problems, creaky case, etc. etc. for them to improve it. This just isn't right - it's a bit like what Apple is doing with the iPhone but not even comparable.

I bet when the new version will be out it will be like brand new Alienware M15X (insert code-name so it sounds cooler)..

    1) call them for free upgrade?
    2) very slight improvement
    3) they have revision coming? interesting.
    5) can't you cancel the order and reorder it?

I do feel terribly disappointed. If they come out with a revised edition M15X and somehow (however unlikely) manage to iron out all the issues with the current m15x - they better have a real good explanation for all us lab rats out there.

I would feel cheated. Not a good feeling...

    1. as you say, no big deal
    2. 9800 is only a 10% performance increase, really. It isn't the true replacement, much like the 8700 wasn't the true replacement for the 7950. Besides, you can upgrade to it if you want it. Or wait like I am till the true replacement.
    3. Keyboard response is tied to Synaptics drivers, so that isn't a hardware fix. My touch controls work perfect -- finger on there for half a second and they read fine. Other things are problems but I think they're so minor it doesn't matter (e.g. I didn't even become conscious of the screen lid creaking until other people started complaining about it)
    4. My optimal colour selection used to be black ripley, but now having had silver ripley I love it. Don't feel like I'm missing out on skullcap cause I wouldn't've gotten it anyway.
    5. Well sure, and how long's it been since you ordered your laptop? I ordered like 6 months ago -- of course the tech will get cheaper.

Lemmie put it this way, this machine (the m15x) in general has been far from perfect (that's an understatement!). There's been a heavy casualty rate for purchasers who paid $3500 for nothing but a headache. For those of us who've been able to hold on for the long haul (like myself), we've been lucky and yes, even my machine has headed to the repair depot (though due to a power fault).

That said, even just this morning as I was walking around the house for an open WiFi signal (my internet had just died for 20 min), I put my laptop down and just started looked at it from across the room, thinking it was the coolest thing I've ever seen. Almost six months on and the machine's still wowing me. Yeah, it's been more effort than I woulda expected (and my effort level is nothing compared to newfie or MrDJ) but here I am with the (still) most powerful 15.4" laptop out there. And frankly, the m860tu will be better on a raw-power basis, but it's the type of increases I would expect in six months of technological advancement. Noticeable, significant, but very small nonetheless (10%). I'll sure be envious of that m860tu guy who waited 6 (7? 8? who knows with this montevina delay) months to play Crysis at 22 fps as opposed to my 20

I mean, back in the dark days I kept thinking, what else could I get? The answer was nothing. I don't think I can live with anything else at this point.

    1) Not for european customers, so what? What I hate more is the fact that there are different classes of customers for alienware: first(=US) and second(=europe) class customers! In europe there is no roswell, no support forums, older or nonexistent drivers in myhive, later releases, still shipping costs, no student discout (not shure tho), etc...

    2) 9800 soon? Based on what information? And still if its released in the next month, so what? It will basically only be a rebranded 8800, as nvidia has done it with every other 9xxx card as well...
Btw crysis is a killer, there are still not many desktop systems that will run it smooth with everything maxed out! And you complain about a 15,4" notebook thats not capable of that? Don't get it...

    3) Revision? Again, based on what information? Or are you just complaining based on some rumours?

    4) see 3)

    5) Hardware ALWAYS gets cheaper... Sometimes you are out of luck and buy short before a drop but thats how it goes... If you start whining about that, stop buy hardware and buy yourself some gold, the price of gold is pretty steady maybe even goes up! But I don't know if an oz of gold will run crysis at decent framerates ;)

Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, I can understand you but I think you complain about the wrong points of the m15x! The "Why you shouldn't buy the M15x" thread is a far better base for complaints IMO...

I had no clue there was a revision??? That could still be a good thing. I would *i*** my way into a revised version myself. I am not feeling any problems but new speakers would be nice and a new driver for 8800 is a must at some point. My screen makes noises but is not shakey and that does not bother me one bit. Really im fine with my 15x just really want some new drivers. And I can't lie, the touch controlls are not so hott either.

I'm not disappointed in the least bit. I knew very well what I wanted, what to expect, and when I wanted it.

I use my notebook everyday for either gaming, surfing, playing around with VM, or just messing around...

I think the vast majority, not everyone because there are lemons out there, of people who are disappointed thought they would be getting the holy grail without a single issue, but IMHO if you can't wait till something isn't so 'new' they you have to accept the fact that there 'will' be issues and kinks...just my opinion of course...

Not many computers CAN play crysis at high settings, even my desktop in my sig struggles so I dont think that is any measure, i even heard the NASA computers struggled too.

I'm surprised to see that an SLI 8800 ULTRA right with a quad-core extreme would struggle a lot with Crysis  but maybe the amount of AA and detail take it down.

Can you please take some pics of your rig? :D

Edit: did you switch the mobo from 780i to 790i?

Also, why would they try Crysis out at NASA? Their computers would be mainly cpu-based monsters and for imaging they'd use workstation-class graphics cards (Quadros and FireGLs instead of GeForces and Radeons); it really doesn't make sense especially considering the fact that workstation graphics cards aren't made to play games but to render images and 3d objects accurately, which would lower framerates and so on...

I can't wait til Alienware revises the m15x and perhaps fixes the current problems.

I for one will wait out the problems before making the BUY.

well if crysis could be rendered in software would that mean the cpu based computers at nasa could run it.
