No. You don't need Command Center or OSD. Everything functions correctly without. Moo says that CC uses a ton of RAM and hinders boot up time. As for before/after benchmarks, I have no idea.

thanks for your imput....i have two identical systems...one bought for so called work...
...i am going to do it now...identical win7 ult....do all the updates same drivers...and see whats up

Many M17x users use CC manually, that is disable alienfxcontroller.exe, fatraymon.exe, alienfusionservice, faservice, etc., as well as other unnecessary apps. See: http://m17x.blogspot.com/2009/11/revisiting-stuttering-issue-on-m17x.html Some of this is individual choice. For example, I like Windows Search and use my M17x as my business computer as well, so I leave that and indexing alone. But most of this crap can go. BTW, AlienFX still works but you load it via start menu.

That's a good idea. I have done a clean install of Windows 7 and changed nothing but the graphics driver. Because as you know, Windows 7 installs drivers for almost everything on it's own. None of Alienware's software is necessary. All of the FN keys still do the same thing, there's just no graphical reminder.

I have no issues running Command Center or OSD, I havent experienced any memory leaks either..... and my Benchmarks are exactly the same with these programs running than without.

Using the latest 195.62 I was running the Batboy recomended ones (186 something) but they weren't really working for Dragon Age Origins.... those were the drivers that got my 12000 marks, these are slightly lower but I really don't care untill I start benchmarking. -

want to see what they looked like -
you might also want to try the current latest 195.81. I'm using these now and so far no issues, only positive feedback (lower GPU temps, higher FPS no up-down-clocking problems that I had with Dell's driver)
