Do you guys usually install AlienAutopsy? If so, what do you use it for? Other than doing a few hardware diagnostics checks, I saw no other benefit to it and it seems to run in the background like now I just got a random crash from it :
I wasn't even using it, it seems to be running in the background

Good choice... it's PC-Doctor and a waste of drive space.

I've always reinstalled my computers and never installed Alienautopsy after. You're making the right choice removing it.

The software has its uses, to be frank. May not be useful for the highly knowledgeable, but for everyone else, it's okay (specially for getting the service tag).

Or, press F2 at POST and look on the main screen of the BIOS for the Service Tag if you need to know it instead of installing software to tell you what is already in plain view. It's not the diagnostic testing features that make it undesirable as much as all of the annoying status messages about needing to do things that actually do not need to be done. Unfortunately, the less knowledgeable sometimes feel compelled to act on those messages when they might be better off doing nothing. You can sign in to your Dell account online if you do not remember warranty status or expiration date.

Anyone that buys an Alienware needs to be good at this kind of thing or in a position where they want to learn how to be good at it. This is entry level PC stuff. That's where forums like this are most useful. Typical PC users are better off with an Acer or HP if they are challenged by something so simple. That said, it shouldn't be too hard for anyone to learn how to press F2 look at the screen, then press F10.

That is until I made an FAQ.
I also keep telling people about a black sticker on the bottom of their laptop. Can't boot, well, there you go.Mr. Fox likes this. -
My laptop had alien autopsy installed from factory. But like you guys said I never use it and the anoint alerts to do this and that even know you already did haf of them. My question to you guys is can I just go to add and remove programs and Uninstalled it without any I'll affect to my system or is it intertwined with my other alienware software.

Alien Autopsy doesn't interfere with the Alien software. You can uninstall and be fine.

I repeated my service tag so many times during various calls that I now have it firmly memorized.

Alien Autopsy and the Dell equivalent are stripped down and tweaked versions of PC Doctor that are offered free for use on their machines. I can see this offering a fair bit of value to noobs, but the vast majority of the tune-up and diagnostic software available is unnecessary bloatware crap, including PC Doctor. You can manually test, tweak and tune for free, or find plenty of effective free alternatives. The best utilities are "portable" and do nothing except occupy a folder when then are not actively being used. Most software that loads itself up with the OS and runs in the background all of the time is generally undesirable and unnecessary.

sorry to drag an old thread from the depths, but i felt this would be appropriate in an existing thread. Now i understand the Alienautopsy is a prog to help the uninitiated in fixing their pride and possession, however has anyone noticed that the application is actually logging (with info such as GeoID and locale being saved on daily basis)
Now despite the fact i have disabled the option where i give Dell to archive any info on my usage of my laptop, it still records this under the supportassist folder on the main drive.
can anyone having installed this look to see a test document under the name / variant thereof

Noway, it is classic friggin bloatware that we would not install even if it was free. Most of us who ever installed it, where only doing so because it seemed as if it was relevant to our install because alienware included it in its syspreps OEMSpartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Clean install. I did not install AlienAutopsy. No need.
I noticed it seemed to spin up my fans. I don't like that. To me, it's Bloat. -
If you wanna scan your system like AlienAutopsy does, you can simply go tu Dell Support page. Choose your model and you can scan your machine for problems or new drivers.

Flaick,
Good to know. Thanks for the tip. -
Naaw it wasn't the drivers (I can pretty much find relevant drivers from any source ) it was more or less the branded software for the rig
Do you install AlienAutopsy?
