    Hi,

I am interested in knowing if people leave their lids open, or if you close it after (almost) every use.

I myself have left my lid open for about a month now, although the laptop is off 90% of the time.

vote yes if you close it after almost every use.
vote no if you do not close your lid often.

    Thanks.

I close it when I leave the house for an extended period of time (A couple of hours) or when carrying it from class to class.

I close it after each use. I don't like dust or hair getting inside it. I have a cat who sheds all year. =(

I only close it when transporting. If I am leaving it on the desk for a while I close it like 1/2 way in case the roof leaks (which it never does but better safe than sorry).

er...should the roof leak,I don't think even closing it all the way might help, perhaps should relocate to a safer place? :p no offense.

Pardon me if this is form AW people only, I wait about 10 minutes after power down, close the lid, then close up my roll top desk.
Same reason as TraptPatriot stated above.

I close my laptop, and put it in the cloth cover that came with the laptop.

I have a valid reason for doing this....

My wife has 4 cats... 4 hair shedding, claw scratching cats....

I carry my M18x on a daily basis so it's closed while transporting. When it's at home on a desk, I never close the lid. Dust can easily be cleaned once in a while. I also almost never turn it off unless transporting.

Always shut off, brush of the entire screen and base. Put the wax paper over the keyboard, close. Dust of the top and then the grills and top edge of the screen.

Intense, but after dust went in between the screen and the gloss plastic screen cover with my M15x I don't take any chances. You cant remove that dust apart from replacing the entire screen assembly as it is a "sealed" unit.

It deserves proper care. Close the lid and put it away every time.

I move around a lot though, it's often sat on kitchen worksurfaces or garden tables so I wouldn't really let it out of my sight unless it was packed away safely.

To be honest, if I actually had a desk and a home (sleeping on sofas right now) I'd probably leave it open and turned the **** ON 24/7 because it certainly makes a room feel more awesome.

On Dell.com, when you go to config a new R3, we can add as an accessory a screen protector. Anyone know if there's a way to order that separately?

right, be the proud parent of a 4 year old son who's successfully reverse engineered the laptop. just ummm... mind the bits all over the floor.

i always close the lid when leaving it to convert vids as a batch since the entire process can take a while. might as well save the lcd from use.

    *edit*
anyone else instantly think they original question was about "folding@home"?
    i must be really tired.

Always have the lid closed when not in use, whether I'm in a lecture or at home. Way I see it, screen is protected and laptop is less likely to get knocked off a desk.

^^^This but throw in a 2 yr old girl too and im likely to come back and find a chocolate bar or some kind of biscuit jammed in the keyboard and slot loading dvd player.

When i had a PS3, i once came home and found 7, yes SEVEN dvds rammed into the disc drive. :D

Always, closed, switched off and in its cloth sleeve, in the orion back pack when not in use. :)
