Hi,
I am interested in knowing if people leave their lids open, or if you close it after (almost) every use.
I myself have left my lid open for about a month now, although the laptop is off 90% of the time.
vote yes if you close it after almost every use.
vote no if you do not close your lid often.
Thanks.

I close it when I leave the house for an extended period of time (A couple of hours) or when carrying it from class to class.
-
I close it after each use. I don't like dust or hair getting inside it. I have a cat who sheds all year. =(
-
I only close it when transporting. If I am leaving it on the desk for a while I close it like 1/2 way in case the roof leaks (which it never does but better safe than sorry).
-
no offense.

I do after every use.
-
I never keep the lid open after I am done using it.
-
I close the lid every day. -
-
Pardon me if this is form AW people only, I wait about 10 minutes after power down, close the lid, then close up my roll top desk.
Same reason as TraptPatriot stated above. -

I close mine regularly. For the amount of cash this thing cost, I wanna get my money's worth, even outta the hinges.....
-
-
If i'm done with it yes, keeps the dust out.
-
I close my laptop, and put it in the cloth cover that came with the laptop.
I have a valid reason for doing this....
My wife has 4 cats... 4 hair shedding, claw scratching cats.... -
Id like to close it every time i finish using it, to stop dust ect getting in...but some / most times i forget
-
I carry my M18x on a daily basis so it's closed while transporting. When it's at home on a desk, I never close the lid. Dust can easily be cleaned once in a while. I also almost never turn it off unless transporting.
-
Always shut off, brush of the entire screen and base. Put the wax paper over the keyboard, close. Dust of the top and then the grills and top edge of the screen.
Intense, but after dust went in between the screen and the gloss plastic screen cover with my M15x I don't take any chances. You cant remove that dust apart from replacing the entire screen assembly as it is a "sealed" unit. -
4 year old son = closed lid after use or likely to come back to some major disaster!

It's all about deconstruction and construction...
-
close it to make it go to sleep or hibernate, when open my laptop doesn't go to sleep, only turn off the screen after extended time of inactivity
-
Close it everytime I am done with it.
I'm OCD about it. If I am not using it, it needs to be closed. -
Close after every use, no real reason why just do.
-
i leave it open, did the same when i had the HP DV5
-
leave open all the time, even when off (doesn't leave the desktop.)
-
I leave mine open but throw a sheet over it sometimes to prevent dust from gathering
-
I close it and put it away in its Alienware Orion case
-
i close it every time i move it over wich is about everyday
-
I close mine everytime i'm done using it.
-
It deserves proper care. Close the lid and put it away every time.
I move around a lot though, it's often sat on kitchen worksurfaces or garden tables so I wouldn't really let it out of my sight unless it was packed away safely.
To be honest, if I actually had a desk and a home (sleeping on sofas right now) I'd probably leave it open and turned the **** ON 24/7 because it certainly makes a room feel more awesome. -
I couldnt agree more. I havent bought mine yet but after spending what could possibly be 3k on it im treating it better than a new born baby. In fact when i get it its taking my bed and im sleeping on the floor. -
On Dell.com, when you go to config a new R3, we can add as an accessory a screen protector. Anyone know if there's a way to order that separately?
-
i always close the lid when leaving it to convert vids as a batch since the entire process can take a while. might as well save the lcd from use.
*edit*
anyone else instantly think they original question was about "folding@home"?
i must be really tired. -

I close it after every use : )
-
I fold mine every night. I love this thing, but when you turn off the lights, it's as if you just invited a rave light show in your room.
-
-
Yes, All the time except for if I leave it open for the AV to scan because I have the option for the Lid Close Action for Sleep. Else after shut down I will close the lid to keep the dust out.
-
my notebook is always on so i never close its lid
-
Always have the lid closed when not in use, whether I'm in a lecture or at home. Way I see it, screen is protected and laptop is less likely to get knocked off a desk.
-
When i had a PS3, i once came home and found 7, yes SEVEN dvds rammed into the disc drive.
Always, closed, switched off and in its cloth sleeve, in the orion back pack when not in use. -
Kind of resurrecting an older thread- I keep mine closed all of the time- It's hooked up to the new LED HDTV and I use a Logitech K800 wireless backlit keyboard and a VX Nano mouse.
Pics will come soon of my setup.
-
I always close mine, no reason to leave it open as it'll just collect dust and grit.
EDIT "When i had a PS3, i once came home and found 7, yes SEVEN dvds rammed into the disc drive."
OMGbet you flipped!

Do you regularly fold your laptop?
