    From the AW FAQ:

    Question
Why is the HDMI port of my Area-51 m15x mobile system not working on UMA mode (integrated graphics card)?

    Answer
    Thank you for your inquiry

The HDMI output is not supported by the integrated graphics mode (UMA mode) of your Area-51 m15x system. Please utilize the discrete graphics card for HDMI support.

I wonder if a BIOS update could fix this or maybe a software patch?

The problem is more of the cable for the HDMI port comes off the discrete GPU. You can open the bottom of the case and see this.
So a BIOS/software update would not fix it, since it is a hardware issue.

I guess that seals the deal then.

As far as the HDMI output goes though, I've been looking at HDMI to VGA solutions and am wondering if anyone has tried either of these or has any other options:

    1) USB to VGA Box (i.e., external video card)

    Example: http://shopiogear.com/detail/IOG+GUC2015V

    2) HDMI to VGA Converter (especially the Gamer Edition)

    Example: http://www.hdfury.com

I use a pretty standard HDMI to DVI-D converter... Works pretty well when using my m15x. I only ever get to use it at school, since I don't have any DVI-D monitors at home (only old CRT VGA Mon.s.)... When in a computer lab, I disconnect the display from the computers in the lab, and connect it to the HDMI output from my laptop... using dual-displays to code is very useful... especially if it's something like HTML (no more switching windows constantly, have your rendered page up all the time)

anyways, if you have DVI-D enabled monitors at home (Most semi-recent (within 3 years) LCD displays do), you can just get a HDMI to DVI adapter and use that... if not, a VGA converter is your only way to go (too expensive if you ask me)...
