As the title says, are they refurbished anywhere else with the same quality, i oddly have found a place in a not so quality place. From a seller I can purchase the m17x with 8800GTX's, 1 TB internal+ 500gigs smart bay, blu ray, and ill keybaord with 26 Mhz processor. I've talked to the guy, he says he gets them from China...Suspicious much?
-
Very shady. Just FYI, but there won't be any warranty on the system either.
-
Well, if the seller claims its from China, I would be EXTREMELY concerened that it might be a scam or substandard parts, if you even get it. I would buy it directly from Alienware, if I were you. I wouldn't trust anyone other than Alienware, selling me Alienware computers, especially from the Chinese.
-
I don't know that alienware refurbishes but I could certainly be wrong. Dell sells refurbished computers in their Outlet, usually for an excellent price. Lenovo and Apple sell refurb on their sites. I'm not sure about other manufacturers.
26 MHz processor???
And I would also be suspicious. Sounds like some cheap company doing it. -
yeah, Ive read on these forums warranty's cannot be transferred whatsoever. But the guy who I have been emailing has been very nice and informative. He doesn't try to hide he gets his products from China. He is selling one on ebay right now, and he just sold a m15x im pretty sure. He puts them crazily low price. If you knew it was from China, would the processor/graphic cards/hard drive all be the same as the ones in US. Or totally different and lower quality?
-
oh i laughed from a good, healthy place when i read the OP's bit.
-
Whoops..only read the first post..but yeah, Im just really curious about this.
not 26 Mhz, i meant 2.6 Mhz, i was just rolling off some specs i had read a few days ago.
whizzo.."OP's bit" what does OP stand for? sorry if its really really obvious
oh..original poster? -
I wouldn't mind if the seller says it's a used system, but saying that it comes from China, I'd be really wary right about then.
-
From personal experiece (I am Asian, so I've seen this first hand), there has to be a specific reason why the products are at a "crazy low price." Obviously it is a scam, uses faulty or counterfeit parts, or may be stolen property. Of course a scammer would be very nice and informative; he/she wants to get his/her hands on your money! I might be wrong, but if the price is too good to be true, it probably is.
-
2.6 MHz? Are we back in 80's? My handheld calculator has a higher clock than that computer.
OP = Original Poster -
Here ill link you the ebay site where he is advertising it. Then i PMed him on ebay and he sent me to his site.

lol Mhz..my bad i meant 2.6 GHz. mistake. its 1799 on his site. Look at the specs, it would be impossible to make a profit with the hardware(if it was legit) at the price he is selling it. -
i highly doubt that. my TI-200 has 66khz.
-
Hey, I happen to be a Chinese... Alienware are scarce in my country, and Only very limited people know AW around here. Actually, I did not see a single person ever owned an Alienware in real life besides me...
So it is very unlikely that your computer are second-handed from here. However, in a way, the words of the seller do make sense, because almost all computer parts in the world are either made in China or Taiwan. -
I was talking about my TI-89 Titanium. It's got a 12 MHz processor.
Look it up here: http://ti-89.org/faq.html -
Well if the parts are theoretically made in china...thus making them cheaper to put together, could the laptops of the same quality of those in the US. Most likely no..but i can hope. But are most like you said, made there, and the price would be affected that drastically?
-
I was just joking in the last part. You were too serious.
In a word, I do not think that the stuff is second-handed from here. AW's customer group are too small in China to evolve a second-hand market, not to mention refurbished. Talk more with the seller, and good luck! -
Again, I would recommend that the OP excercise the most EXTREME caution when dealing with an overseas dealer, especially from China. I am sure you have read about many scams on the internet that come from overseas, and once the money exchanges hands, you will realize that you were duped. Again, I have to say that the parts used in the machine may be substandard and could also be counterfeit. You have no idea where the parts come from, and I highly doubt Alienware will give you or honor any warranty if you did not directly order it from Alienware. The seller may seem cordial, but that is just the facade; who knows what the real intention is if you don't do your homework. The deal might be legit, but do excercise caution. If it is genuine, then you snagged a great deal, but if it is an off product (or heaven forbid, no product at all), well, there is probably nothing you can do, except that you are out of your money. All I can tell you is to trust your instinct. If something is just not quite right, back out immediately.
Good luck. -
Yes, just to add, he is actually in NJ. He has a ebay store that he sells stuff on. a 100% approval rate so far(which only means so much) its easy to dupe people with cheaper products. But yeah, ive been talking and communicating as much i can with the seller. So..i was too serious, missed something i guess. But i will research this stuff for awhile before i make a purchase. Or i can wait till..whenever quicksilver comes out, which no one knows. Or wait for the 4870s then buy from alienware for an inflated price. But, how do i figure out of they are real or not, im going to try to get pictures of the laptops and the hardware with bottom taken off etc. Anything i can think of...any help would be appreciated. But thanks for your help so far.
-
I totally agree with you. -
Well just to give you guys an update, i have been emailing him asking it about it and the supplier. Etc. and stuff. He just sent me an email asking if i was an attorney..bwhaha...i did take a few law cases..and my rents are both litigators. For some reason the credibility of this site and this product is diminishing.
-
2.6 Mhz lol
-
Too many red flags here. eBay'ers will probably drive the cost up near the brand new value anyway. Not going to be worth it in the end.
-
Please Clauss dont dare give this joker any money!!! its 100% scam I swear.
All these Ebay scammers use notebooks as their bogus item and whats more desirable than an Alienware notebook..eh.
These people can fake loads of info and can get 100% feedback scores made up by themselves and friends...its one of the biggest cons that there is going at the moment.
Please, please please dont even think about it. They all use notebooks at the moment to suck people in.
I hope you get your notebook but not from this scam artist. good luck.
ps, If I could turn back time and could choose another cheaper notebook than my M17 I would have bought the Dell XPS...they are more common so are coming down in price very nicely. -
I say go ahead with the deal. That way, if it turns out to be a scam, we get to learn from your mistake.
Good Luck -
Haha thanks, At the moment i have a much more reliable deal with he past owner of dark smiley systems who will make me a m17 which is what i will most likely go with. But i am just emailing the suspicious seller and still finding out more info.
-
I wouldn't want a system that wasn't certified, warrantied and refurbed by alienware just like I prefer my used cars certified, warrantied by maker.
-
I wouldn't buy a used laptop from anyone accept maybe a friend or relative.
I'd really fell better spending a lot of money for a used rig I've got first hand knowledge of. imao
Does anyone besides Alienware refurbish their laptop?
