it's your BIOS. upgrade to x36 if you can stand the full throttle CPU fan, otherwise, give x32 a shot.

what Bios are you using, if you are using the x34 then you should consider going to the x32 or x36.

CPU-Z should tell you what BIOS you're on, as well as some additional information you might find useful. I'd recommend X32 for now as the full blast X36 BIOS is pretty serious.

It runs at high RPMs all the time because there is a temperature reading bug that displays the temperature at 80C constantly even though it is clearly not.

x34 BIOS are what causes your sound to pop.. I had the same issue when I first got my laptop (it came with x34).

x36 BIOS causes your fans to run at full blast the entire time, but it fixes the sound popping issue.

x32 BIOS just plain work. Pretty low driver latency, no sound popping..

I was quite worried as I have heard a lot of horror stories from flashing your BIOS, but Alienware makes it sooo stupid simple.

Burn a CD, reboot.. boot from CD and in 2 minutes its completely done.

There are some touch button issues with X32 and I think if you have the extreme processor there is some X32 issue with it as well.

If he already has the X34 BIOS installed, he might as well upgrade to X36. The fans are the same in both.

I didn't think they were, I'm on X34 and they only kick in every so often, I thought in X36 they were on constantly?

No. After some time of testing the X36 BIOS, they're on a lot more often than X32 but they do dim down once in awhile.

Edit: ..for instance, just right now.

the overwhelming majority says that on x36, the CPU fan is on almost constantly. also. many say that this issue isn't as prevalent on x32 and x34, although x34 does spin up the CPU fan more often.

Well his sig says he doesn't have an extreme CPU.. therefore I would suggest he go to x32 so he doesn't have his fans on full settings..

I'm on x32 and don't have any touch button issues..

Yeah, that's what I thought. Should totally try X32 then, IMO.

but isn't having the fan on a good thing, as it reduces the heat inside the system?

Or is the fan too loud?

It is and it isn't.. Running the fan all the time may be too loud for some... but mainly its gonna kill the fan faster..

Right now I'm running a laptop cooler and when I'm not gaming my GPU fan shuts completely off.

This problem is driving me crazy...i cant listen to music anymore on this computer...the sound seems to lag when listening to music on any player (sound popping). I didnt have this problem when i bought it. Came with x32 i think...i installed x36 and it popped quite a bit ...i re-installed x32 but now it is popping again..??? I dont understand what could be causing this. I wonder if this related with another problem i have. When i plug in a sd card in the card reader and transfer data to or from it...the computer mouse and sound starts to lag badly!!???

My best recommendation would be to do a complete reinstall of windows if you cant seem to find the problem. You might want to try updating the realtek drivers if you haven't done so just to give it a shot.
