Just wondering if they change it for free. Just bought it two months ago and my 6970m GPU is fried/dead. Had the 1 year warranty. Also, cn I buy a new GPU from them like chainging it to 6990m and paying additional charge? let me know how it goes from you

If your 6970m is dead and you still have warrenty call Dell and they wil replace it.

There might be a change that Dell replace it with a 6990m. Why would you want to buy a card from Dell, if you have warrenty.

So they might change/upgrade it to 6990m?

If Dell doesnt have the 6970m in stock they will replace it with a 6990m or a 580m.

Try to sweet talk the rep. a little.

Yes, Dell will replace your cards (if truly defective) with something comparable if they don't have the original cards in stock (or just not manufactured anymore). 6990M would be a likely replacement, I doubt you'd get the 580M.

Having read another post around here, apparently they are out of stock of both the 6970/6990. But I am not 100% sure, try calling the parts department and see if they have either in stock. I am also assuming you live in the US.

If Dell is unable to source the part, they will either tell you to wait or try to get you a new unit (depends on the length of service/times in service). Manufacturer can't replace parts if they don't have them in stock.

    spot on. +1

As for the OP's question on ordering a card from Dell and will they install it -

as I understand it, yes - they will. They will charge for this and the notebook might have to be sent it or the on-site tech might be dispatched - either way, the GPU (like any other part) will be covered for the remainder of the system warranty or for 1 year. Check with support to confirm.

Regarding when will certain GPUs will be out of stock - well, we wont go there. ;)
