Haha. Funny!! Return it for a refund then!

Moo. I've had this problem with different laptops ( or gadgets ) depending on what plug the power is plugged into in the house/ appartment. If you're getting little shocks then your power isn't grounded ( well it is but just through you! lol). Try a different plug or sort out your grounding situation at home :)

Yea, explain a little more. I know on my 1720, I get like a tiny feeling like there is a tiny needle poking me sometimes. It gets rather annoying. It can be from the bottom if i'm using the it on my lap or on the bottom of my wrist. It's not like a big zap.

Does it 'shock' me physically or metaphorically?

    Physically, no.

Metaphorically, yes, it shocks me that my laptop could be so powerful and there are some nearly twice as powerful as it graphically.

M17x doesn't shock me, my XPS Gen 2 did, but it turned out to be a Chinese ripoff replacement powersupply that I'd bought cheap. I used to get a tingling feeling when my wrists touched the metal chassis at the edge of the palmrest where the paint had worn off. Buying a genuine powersupply from Dell cured the problem.

It only shocks me when I stroke it too much ... then the static builds up... Same applies to the M17x... :D

Seriously though, if you're getting current through the casing that is definitely bad!
Can you run a meter on the casing to measure this, or is it a zap discharge?

Also ... wear rubber shoes and try not to stand in water whilst playing. And try not to lick it ... tempting though the M17x is..

    Cheers

Yes, when I have it on my lap and plugged into the net I do sometimes feel a small charge when I touch the metal casing, nothing major or anything and not all the time either.

I think mine is the same. Charge through the chasis. Is there anything I can do about it? Doubtful. What is causing it? I'd like to narrow down the problem. I have a good Dell power supply.

Yes, mine physically shocks me all of the time. It's because I have fluffy carpet throughout my house, and I use my M17 mainly sitting on my couch. The static build-up takes the easiest route to ground, which is through the chassis of the laptop, and then through the power supply. That's the only time I get 'shocked'. Just kind of a 'needles and pins' sensation through my wrists or forearms.

    Ditto.
Since it's cold and dry now in Calgary + my floor is covered with fluffy carpets as well - the only solution to avoid shocking the machine found so far is to touch the nearby metal chair before touching the laptop :)
