well, the 8800m-gtx is about 2-3 times as powerful as the 8700m-gt. if you want to be playing games at high settings for another year or two, i'd say the 8800m-gtx is definitely the wiser choice. if you're not that much into gaming, the 8700m-gt should suffice.

+1 to 8800 considering power and heat.

I been reviewing 3dMarks 06 Dual gpus But what I notice the single gpu in Crysis is best. in dual gpu it crashes. The crashing is both desktops and laptops. So it not a Alienware issue it Crysis issue.

    8600 gpu 7000
    8700 gpu 9500
    8800 gpu 12000

I think my options is best buy the 8700 or 8600 and wait for the 9000 setup.

    1) Sli doesnt cause problems, i proved that in the thread in my sig

    2) yes, the 8800GTX still wins because its 256 bit interface, if the 8700gt was 256bit, then that would be a different story

3)AtolSammeek, from where in hell you got those benchmarks? dont tell me, let me guess.. Notebookcheck... the 8800GTX and 8700gt Scores Identically in 3dmark06, in some Cases , users could get 13k 3dmark06 scores with the Gts with Overclocking.. but as you know 3dmark06 isnt everything, the 8800GTX still wins, but not by 3k in 3dmark06, but in actual gaming.

SLI doesn't create problems per se (except of course some games not running, or crashing when in SLI ;)), but it needs special drivers and whatnot. in general, it requires more tweaking and fiddling about than a simple, one GPU system.

those numbers sound very realistic to me... it's pretty much what id've predicted. why should they be wrong?

nvidia doesnt really support sli well enough for laptops yet. i would go with a 8800 since its a single card and it is true some games wont support sli and you will be stuck gaming on 1 8700. i rather have consistent power than power in certain games.

now i'm confused. are those 8700GT SLI Vs Single 8800GTX?, if so, a 8800GTX has no chance on hell scoring 12k

I wrote the SLi guide and honestly man SLi is full of troubles it sucks as of right now. When it works it is fine but it always seems to have troubles at least in my case.

Guys, i dont See where SLI sucks. in my Guide i told you guys to choose any game you want and i will test, and i doubt any of them will have crashes, "Special Drivers" , or being not supported by SLI.

If you want, i still have Doom3 Farcry and Quake 4 if they are considered old. even Metal gear solid 2 supports SLI very well, even its considered the worst port ever made IMO

@Brainer - Its not that they don't support SLi, it is that the gain because of it varies from game to game. At least with a single card you do not have to worry about that happening.

I've talked to few of my friends about upgrading to SLI laptop, surprisingly everyone of them told me to stay away from it and stick with my OC'ed 8800m GTX.

Everyone has their Opinion, and mine is SLI/Crossfire is a great improvement.
