Anyone know how to enable the touchpad even when the mouse is plugged in? I've got the VX nano mouse, it has a really small receiver, so its hard to take out of the USB port. Plus the M15x has very tight ports.

My receiver for the mouse stopped working, it made rattling sound when I shook it. thats because it takes a bit of power to pull it out of the port.

    thanks

I have my VX Revolution and my touchpad working at the same time...maybe it is some kind of Alienware software setting or maybe it is in the Synaptics touchpad settings software.

go to control panel - then mouse - then either go to device settings - tab and make sure "disable internal pointing device when external usb pointing...." is not checked, if you cant find that then go to control panel - mouse - thouchpad settings - then external mouse properties, and then you take it from there. I have the same mouse as you, the reason i gave two ways is because the first way is for the newest driver, and the second way is for the old driver, because they changed the menus

Ricky, how does this mouse perform if the receiver is on the left side of the laptop and you're using the mouse on the right side? Any signal problems?

this mouse is really good, there is no problem with the reciever being on the left side.
That's how mine is right now.

To Enable the touch pad and mouse at the same time follow these steps:
1- Go to control panel, switch to Classic View and select Mouse (or right click on "Synaptics Pointing Device" in system tray and select "Pointing Device Properties".)
2- Go to the Device Settings tab and uncheck "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached"
3- Press FN+F12 and now it will light AND work.

Note: if you just press FN+12 it will ONLY turn on the touch pad light.

My guess is that you need v6.5 drivers and the touchpad needs to be active at the time you check the settings (but that's a guess off those three screenshots)

I can't get that option no matter what I try.. I guess I know what to ask the tech support tomorrow: this + MS reader not working + keyboard unresponsiveness

Go to the "My Hive Area" and download latest WHQL driver, but be aware:

    Touchpad Driver 10.1.8.0 WHQL

    Fixes in this driver release:
    • Driver is digitally signed by Microsoft (WHQL)
    • Allows touchpad and keyboard to be used simultaneously.
    • Fixes touchpad auto-disable when external pointing devices are connected.
    • Removes "evaluation copy" message from driver properties.

Known Issues in this driver release:
    • FN+F12 key combination does not disable the touchpad and touchpad light.
    • Touchpad must be disabled and enabled under the Synaptics Device Settings tab in the Mouse Properties.

    cheers

It's under the regular "AREA-51 M15X 15" WXGA+ W/CAM SIL-RIP-PNT" section, under the two other touchpad drivers (just do ctrl+f and search touchpad)

You're right then, it isn't up. My initial suggestion would have been that they don't have it on the euro myhive, but then kitir ('Location: EU') was the one who found it anyway. North American customers have it.

Sorry guys, I didn't know EU MyHive is different. I purchased my m15x in the US, so I'm "US owner" and I'm using US support... but I'm living in the EU country.

    cheers
