    Hi,

I have got an engineer arranged to visit on Wednesday, and to be honest am more than a little nervous about them accidentally damaging my M17X as they will be replacing both graphics cards, and after watching the M17X teardown video on Youtube, can see that this is a very big job.

Does anyone have any top tips to limit any possible mishaps (Scratches etc).

    Cheers

PS.. I am sure all Dell engineers are trained to the highest standards, but this is my pride and joy they are working on so any hints would be very much appreciated :p

make sure you have a towel or something soft for the laptop to lay on. Also a good idea to have a printed service manual handy, just in case your tech isn't too familiar with aw systems.

I would make sure to have a video of the M17x disassembly loaded and ready to go, maybe even review it yourself, as well as the tech manuals loaded for referance.

Those things ^^^ are your best bet. As DR650SE stated it's a good idea to know the system well yourself and watch the tech so if anything does go wrong you know exactly what and why.

    Bottom line is this -

Don't worry about it. If any damage is caused by the tech, before the tech leaves, insist that they call support and report the damage. they have a direct line to support - not one where they have to wait in a call queue. There is no reason why any damage caused by a tech needs to be accepted. Dell/AW Tech Support is not going to just 'leave you hanging'. Have the tech call and then you get on the line and clearly voice your concern. They will resolve it.

Tech damage can happen - its not that it will happen every time the unit is serviced but accidents do happen. The system is covered and they will resolve it to your expectations.

Give them a chance... If anything, I've learned that treating the tech like a kid who knows nothing will just make the service call that much more uncomfortable. Yes, we all care about our systems but hovering over the tech does nothing but freak out the tech.

    ;)

I agree with this logic, and also make sure you have a clean, safe, well-lit place and your tech will be the least distracted. I talked extensively with one who came out to replace a bad fan in my M17x-R2, and he was so glad about the work spot, he told me a couple stories of actual crack-house conditions he had to go work in.

I also promised him a $50.00 tip for no damage while working :D j/k

And definitely make sure hes not a temp. My guy was a temp and after the complaint I left I doubt he got hired on full time like he was hoping.
