So I'm living in France right now, I'll be flying back to the States in 3 days to pick up my M17x. It was actually cheaper for me to fly back and buy one in the States ($600 round trip flight and $2300 M17x) than it was to get one in France (Nearly $4000).
So my biggest concern is the power. Here's what the French outlet looks like.

Currently I'm using something like this to convert the power.

So I'm a little nervous about ruining a $2300 notebook because the converter couldn't handle it. I've heard stories from other people living here that their notebooks fried when they tried to use a converter so I'd rather not take the chance.
Secondly, would a Schuko (French outlet) style power block be compatible with any M17x?

The only thing that could fry is the power brick.
I think you'll be ok using that adapter as the power bricks are all dual voltage (I lived in Germany for 4 years so I remember dealing with that lol). -
Hmmm, so the brick itself is preventing any electrical damage to the computer?
-
Yeah.
Even in a big spike the brick would go and the computer would be fine. -

God forbid anything goes wrong with the machine. Do you know if Dell in Europe will support an American Dell machine under their warranty?
Thanks. -
Don't think so.
You need a different warranty for that (I think). -

LOLOLOL!!! That was the problem, my brick went out all too quickly. But at least my m17x was safe. Now I have 4 replacements on the way.
Just as an additional protective measure, I would use a surge arrestor. That would help protect the bricks themselves, giving them longer life. Trust me, it sucks having an "all powerful" that is now all powerless.... -
Can't you just order an Europe power adapter from DELL?
-
Hi everyone I have been following this forum for a long time but never post, I thought I had to start one day
.
Reguarding the warranty you should be able to convert it to an european one by telling them you had to move to europe for work/family/etc.. reason.
Otherwise as it had already been said, the power brick is 100-240V so no worries of frying anything. -

Exactly! I keep telling people. The brick is dual voltage. The only issue will be finding an adaptor plug that will allow you to connect a North American plug into the wall outlet of your particular location, and given that you can find like a gazillion of these in the marketplace, that's really a non-issue.
For example; I am in Iraq, which uses the British-style 3-pronged 240V outlet, but by the miracle of an adapter, I can plug my AW brick (while it was working lol) into it and enjoy my m17x.... -
I think that it is possible to contact the Dell Alienware support in France and to ask for a EMEA power cable .
It goes around of 17-18 euros
