Hey all, I am considering of getting an AW laptop in the near future and just got a few questions:
1. Is the delivery fee included in the payment? (I live in sydney)
2. How is haggling with Alienware Aus?
Some people have already suggested to me HIDevolution, but after adding the delivery fees and tax/duty, the prices are almost equal, and I didn't want the hassel of transfering warranty and filling out tax papers.

Hey, I bought my M11x from the Australian Dell site so I can help out a bit.
1. Yes, shipping is included in the price which is a bonus
2. I ordered mine online before I knew it was possible to haggle over the phone but if I had my time again, I would definitely try to knock down the price a bit over the phone. I've heard of lots of people overseas getting great deals talking to an Alienware Rep but not so many in Australia.
Let us know how you go. -
Hey Tutublade.
I bought my m11x through Dell Australia (with Dell owning Alienware and all) and overall it's been a pleasant experience. Shipping was absolutely brilliant, with it arrived easily a week ahead of the specified delivery date. And when they said they were would deliver it in the morning, it was there at 8am, with my eager hands ready to rip the box open.
Like Rypac, I ordered online and wasn't aware that negotiating was a viable and potentially fruitful option, but I'm planning on buying a m14x in the near future and am definitely going to try and haggle as much as possible.
One thing I will also say about Alienware in Australia which I has been my experience is the general lack of knowledge of some techs. I used to live in Canberra and received brilliant tech service, with absolutely flawless installation and knowledge. Having recently moved to rural Victoria, it has been a completely different story and utter nightmare, eventually resulting in Dell issuing me a replacement unit.
But, with you living in Sydney, I'm sure the market of techs is far more competitive and there would be more people who know how to handle Alienwares, just as I found in Canberra. Just thought I let you know about my experiences.
Hope all goes well for you! -
Hey Martinroshak, I think I might be doing the same upgrade as you around this time next year, so I'd be really interested to know what comes of your haggling.
Goodluck to both of you! -
When I purchased my M17x, I had been charged twice on the credit card and it took them two months to clear it up which was a very big issue.
I was also not able to haggle over the phone because I was told that I was purchasing an Alienware system and that you could not get discounts on these (unless you state you're a student of a particular university, etc). Basically, you can't talk them down. I tried my very best and they weren't interested. -
I haggled around 15% off the M17x over the phone, pretty easy if you keep pushing them.
-
If AU has the same phone staff as NZ (i.e based in Singapore I think?) they can sometimes flat out refuse to lower the price/do any deals.
And they'll keep ringing you up at odd hours asking if you had changed your mind yet.. -
yup , bought an AW this year....
couple of points......order online haggle on phone....piece of advice look around for coupons (yes they work for Aussie customers too...search in google +au..should get you a couple of links)
i have seen and evaluated the ordering system on 02 separate occasions
both times the sales rep seem to go a % more if streched ..like i got a 12% off with a coupon and another % from the sales rep...in that price i was able to upgrade the GPU+BLURAY and WARRANTY and still save 60 AUD -
Hey tutu,
I bought the 2 laptops from there. It was a pleasant experience dealing with them even thou they are outsourced to Malaysia.
Managed to haggle and get about 50 AUD off? + additional 1yr warranty from them for both sets.
Good luck! -
anyone needs student discount coupon in Australia? it worths 13%.
-
I wasn't able to haggle with the sales rep with my m17x, but there was a $200 discount on the m17x a few days after I had paid for my system so I rang the rep up and asked him what he could do, sure enough I was refunded $200 a couple days later. I was stoked.
Everything else has also been good -
the 12% i mentioned was due to a coupon, that you can find online but make sure its applicable in Australia....then you force them to round it off and or throw a threat that fine i am not buying....be aware..be ready to buy it if the deal goes through
the game that is included.....you can get it cancelled......ONLY if you call...that's another 45A$ for you.
are you buying through the package they have made out, otherwise if you individually spec a machine the price sky rockets ...further than the package price
...one more thing......be aware of the issues we have had with M17's i have been through replacements (2 of 'em) you might need to do something along the similar vein......analyze the machine as your life depends on it...run a game and check against the norms for that specifications..... return within the first 72 hrs if needed...otherwise forever hold your peace -
Hey, I live in rural Victoria.
I bought a M15X a few weeks before they stopped selling them.
I was ordering it on the net but was having difficulties doing so, so I called them up and ended up doing the transaction over the phone.
I got about $300 off which was pretty sweet.
However about 2 months ater i got it the HDD crashed, they replaced it the next day though, which was brilliant. They even came to my uni to do it as I had a lecture i had to go to.
I've had a few bsod's still though and the rubber stoppers keep falling out..... should call them to replace it...
anywayyyyy.... yes, it's worthwhile calling and haggling. The rep I spoke to was a good bloke and made sure i got my delivery. Also because of my location they made special consideration getting it to me.
It took about 2 weeks for delivery.
Overall, it's worthwhile calling. They're expensive enpough as is, so whatever you can get taken off them is a bonus. XD -
Call and haggle, if the rep you are speaking too won't budge, end the call. Try again with a different rep. Also you could try emailing or using the chat function, that apparently works quite well.
-
I've managed ~$600 off at $3800 purchase..you can get a 13% dicount for pretty much sneazing (part of education department, racv member)...
just order over chat..
Cheers,
Nick
