Not sure if it has an emergency paperclip eject hole on it - but its worth trying. You'll have to crack the system to gain access to the drive in order to remove it. Reference the service manual if you decide to try.

Did you try jamming the eject button while you're rebooting?

Dang! I don't remember seeing a manual eject which is one of my few gripes about the m17x.

It seems like it has come off track.. I have looked and there isnt a manual eject button. The only way to get the disc will be to open up M17x and open drive to get disc out. Unless you may have something that is small enough to fit in slot, clamp on disc, press eject button and try to pull out the disc.. Try not to be too forceful.. If not you have to open it up.. -
Smiley, what I meant by that is there is typically an emergency eject on the player's chassis... I know there isn't one of the front of the M17x. That's why I said you have to crack it open (the laptop). Then again, it may not have one at all. Up to you to look. Be careful and note everything if you are taking the M17x apart for the first time.
Might want to PM Mandrake and he can look next time he is changing CPUs out. He must have the whole process down to 7 minutes by now. -
The Manual Eject button cost money that's why they didnt put a button in sad though i hope i am not a victim of cost cutting profit driven jamming dvd drive
I am interested in this case just incase i run into this problem. -
I guess I won't be using the slot loading drive unless its for an OS install... Guess its time to hit up newegg for an external.

damn. i could pull it apart and take out the drive itself, but at the moment i really dont want to. oh well, ill get around to it in the next few days if i cant get it out some other way.
