Does Alienware still offer any 120hz display options from the factory? Taking a look, I don't see the 3D option on the 17 anymore. Both the 18 and 17 seem to have the same display (aside from size). I assume this display is 60hz?

We resellers can offer it at least.

Alienware likes to make changes all the time...It is probably either a stock issue or maybe they are finally getting around to rolling out the 900m series and it is possible the 120hz isn't an option with that particular GPU yet. It will probably be back before to long. Also in regards to the 18 I don't think it has the 3D option ? someone can feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

My latest Alien 17 was built on 11th October 2014 and has the 120hz 3d screen; it is a replacement for a 17 damaged by a 'Rogue Tech', and when the spec was originally sent it had the 1600x900 screen which I rejected as my original was 1920x1080 and I didn't see why I should accept an lower spec through an issue not of my making!

I was pleasantly surprised when the revised spec came with the 3d screen; it is noticeably better in image quality than the standard IMO, and I have had both machines on side-by-side to compare.

I am in the UK so the offer may be different where the OP lives.....

    Regards

    Dave

Someone on the Dell forum gave me an override link to get the 120hz option...ouch, that price!

I was hoping they were finally putting 120hz displays in these things as standard, or at least an option that didn't require a $1000 premium.

Yes for some strange reason dell is being less flexible in their offerings compared to what resellers can do *shrugs*

You can still get 120Hz for the moment with the 3D package on the 17, but you have to get it with the 880m.

Well, looking on the bright side, the more rigid and limited Dell/Alienware become with configuration option the better things will be for resellers that are eager to bridge the gap. If they refuse to offer products that meet customer expectations, it's really nice to have an option available where they actually give a rat's butt about what customers want. Going forward, a one size fits all approach probably won't get them very far with technically savvy customers that want the best quality and most powerful configuration options available... they will simply take their money to a source gives them what they want rather than quietly settle for mundane hardware options.
