I know that we all have our own frustrations and issues regarding Dell but i'm really distraught over how infrequently they release driver updates for our systems. For example the last graphics update was in September and although it did fix some of our issues that didn't completely solve the underlying problems that we have. So basically what I'm saying is that is really sucks that Dell is so silent about whether or not they're ever going to release more driver updates but does anyone here know of any future plans they may have for future driver updates or are we most likely left in the dark?

this pretty much sums it up -

Its been like this for some time. I recall when Brian (AW rep) was here on the forum. He did mention that they were planning on having AMD and NV active in releasing drivers which support AW. I cant locate his specific post but he did state this was on the books and would take some time to roll out. Granted its been some time but its something to look forward to if it ever comes to pass.

In the meantime, see what others are using and do some checking on your own. We all have to do this if we want to try a newer version driver.

    Also,

Plus if we had all of the drivers updated all the time for us there wouldnt have been nearly the innovation over the time the M**x series have been out.

There has been some really imaginitave "techniques" invented by various members to counter the lack of completely new drivers.

Dell claims they have to test all updates supplied by Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Etc before releasing it. Considering they have so many models and platforms to test not surprising it takes them some time to finally get aorund to it.

I have found the more important updates do come quicker.

You can always go directly to the source of the drivers and update that way.

Not sure about the 5870, but my 460m does not accept drivers direct from Nvidia, so not sure if that's an option for the OP.

My suggestion is to experiment with laptopvideo2go drivers with modded inf files and see which ones perform best. But do so with caution because they are known to limit some other functions such as backlight dimming.

Unless they have released a buggy driver, they probably dont see a need to release a newer driver.
As long as the piece of hardware isnt proprietary to the point I cant get a driver anywhere else such as the manufacturer of the part, I dont expect them to release a newer one. Dell provides a basic working driver.
Video drivers are usually the only thing I see that need to be updated frequently, especially when you have sli/xfire updates needed for newly released game titles.
I prefer to go to the Card manufacturer and use their driver/profile update.

Hope i provided another relevant point of view...
