    Hey guys,

I recently made another partition to try out the windows 7 beta and that installed just fine. However, there are a few issues that have been happening since then on my original windows vista home premium x64 installation.

First of all, I can no longer turn my touchpad on or off via the fn + f12 combination it will just state that the touchpad is on if it happens to be on at the time or off if I disable the touchpad using synaptics manually. All the other function combinations are working just fine but this one is not.

Secondly, how would I go about it so that I can get my "Press F10 to boot Alien Respawn" option back when I boot up since the windows boot manager has taken over and my recovery partition is no longer asking me that on bootup?

Finally, what is the best option that anyone has found for protecting the m15x that would be available in Canada. I tried contacting invisible shield but nothing came of that since they said they could not make one for my lappy. I am mainly looking for something to protect the palmrests and the black border around the screen but any help in this aspect would be greatly appreciated as well since I wanna keep my m15x as mint as I can :D.

Sorry guys forgot to add that these issues are occurring on my original windows vista home premium installation from alienware. I have changed nothing on it but these issues have appeared after I installed windows 7 (which I subsequently got rid of btw to see if the issues would disappear but no they have not)

Invisbilshield lied to you. THey can make you one, as long as you send them in the laptop, at least thats what they said to me anyway..

yeah thanks for that ryujin. That, in fact, is what I first saw and really wanted but there is no way to have that done anywhere in Canada :(. anyways, does anyone have any suggestions for the other two issues? If I reinstall using my alienware vista installation cd will it fix those, especially the recovery partition?

    1. try reinstalling the touchpad drivers.

2.Yeah, when you installed win7, the master boot record was rewritten so you pretty much lost the respawn option.

Thanks for that shaded I did see those before but I would really like something transparent as I love the finish on the m15x as it is.

Anyways, I was able to fix the alienrespawn problem though it did require a system recovery. I used acronis disk director to manually set the respawn partition as the active one and then did an "advanced system recovery" so that my current files were backed up and the os reinstalled. It took its time but it worked like a charm and I am now back to factory default settings with my alienrespawn showing up on bootup.

Funnily enough though, fn + f12 still does not toggle the touchpad on or off. I tried reinstalling the drivers as well but that did not do anything either. It is not that big of a deal but it is an annoyance.
