Forgive me if this thread is similar to the already existing beta thread. However, I would like to have a list of who plays where so we can try to coordinate playing together on the same server.
Go ahead and do a shout out of your character name(s) and the server in which you play! See you in-game!

Game is so different and harder to play than WoW. I definatly could use some help questing and learning the ropes. PLEASE!!! lol -
Don't have the M17x yet or the game but am plan on playing once it's release. Laptop will be use to play FFXI, FFXIV and HOMM3
I'm usually a solo adventurer and party only when I need to. I'm by no means hardcore but I do like to play extremely well with all the jobs. I'm also an Engineer so I'm very very picky on game mechanics, gameplay and player skills. Those traits tend to leave me alone whether or not I like it hahaha
If you're the same type of person or don't really mind an a-hole like me, who's usually right technically based on DATA, then great!
I'm extremely friendly and kind so don't fret hahaha it's just the engineering side of me wanting perfection while playing the game.
I am currently persuading a few of my nephews to join me in FFXIV. They typically hold the same standards as I do since I am their Uncle and all; well that and because I will annoy them until they learn hahahaha So if you guys have us, the game will be much much easier than adventuring with others...IMO
80 on all jobs in FFXI except for pup and blu. Once I get back to the game they'll be 85 soon enough
-
hahaha, from the sound of it you're EXACTLY like me, trying to get the best with the things you have at disposal, and then go the engineering way, to optimize and tweak things until you are satisfied.
I'm not a software specialist or a hardcore gamer either, it's just something that catches my heart, love any electronics and gadgets, that's all.
There might be not that much info floating around yet, but i'm sure you will find some guides and FAQs and Wiki's that will provide ANY info sooner or later that you are looking for. For FFXI, i had once a very good wiki, with all missions described, job system, crafting and whatnot. But the best way to learn something, is by just trying and learning from your mistakes, even if you have to do it 10 times in a row... Sooner or later you will understand the game mechanics. research a bit and you will find what you are looking for, for sure, maybe not directly on this forum, since it's more laptop system oriented.

ummm im completely lost, ive never played a MMO before, and really dont have a clue, are then any guilds around that help newbies, or am i doomed to run around fighting squirrels for the rest of my MMo life? -
One of my friends is part of a forum/linkshell for FFXIV that seems to be social-only focused; they're on Mysidia. If anyone wants the link to that forum, PM me.
Also, so far I haven't been able to fully enjoy playing because I'm getting some pretty sad FPS (about 15-20)--not sure what to do to my R1 to make this game work a little faster. -
ill add both of you, im on the same server, my name is Dark Shadow
-
Sounds good, I'm usually on weeknights (west coast). I'll add you to my friends list next time I'm online.

ok sweet ive added you, and weekends are my best times too....

I would love to say that I am playing the game but alas, I cannot get past the stupid "Final Fantasy XIV has stopped working" right after you click on the shortcut icon. I tried doing a search and I didn't come across an answer so I thought I'd ask this thread since I see similar laptops to my own up and running (mx17 R2, crossfirex Mobility HD5870, 8GB RAM). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel like a crack fiend in need of a fix. LOL!

You need the latest video drivers (Catalyst 10.6+), to be able to even start the game. Cheers

I just found this post of yours...

This all I need to do? I'm pretty computer software illiterate but I'm trying to learn the best I can. Thanks for the response. -

game is fun i have to admit. if theres anyone on the trabia server hope to see you there! -
Hi Otaru, r u playing FF14 on m11x? I have m11xr1 and just wondering whether the game is playable or not...
-
nope, but i plan to test it out..my laptop's EDD(10/7/2010) is next week so i'll let you know then.
-
Gee thanks, FYI FFXIV benchmark resulted around a bit lower than 1400 on m11xr1 (OC'ed). Interesting to see how much improvement on r2.
-
So there is one guy who has tried it out, after using beta drivers and overclocking alittle, he's managing to get "playable" frames. I may try this strategy but first i'm gonna run it normally just because i'm a "see it for myself" type of person.

I'd originally rolled on Rabanastre but decided to re-roll on what's been deemed the 'unofficial Australian server.' (It took me a few days though...)
Just a note if anyone else plans to re-roll on another server - SE have been (temporarily) locking down new character creation on congested servers. This also means if you delete your character and then try to re-roll on the same server, you're out of luck until the congestion lets up. (This information is on FFXIV Lodestone.)
