First post! Woot!
I finally took the plunge and ordered an m15x. I've been following these forums for about a year now, just scanning and reading all the various posts about laptops. I'd just like to say these forums have been an invaluable resource in my research into a new Laptop. Thank you very much!
I'm sure someone will be saying "You should have bought a Sager/Clevo/Dell/Mac (Mac? ***!)" Well, say what you want. I've been doing the research and the m15x matches all the criteria I wanted in a new laptop. It's important to identify what exactly you'll use the laptop for, where you'll use it, and what software your going to run on it. Plus, there was the whole "Alienware Mystique". If I show up to a LAN party with a Sager/Clevo/Dell/Mac (Opps! Mac's don't play games...) no one bats an eye. Show up with an Alienware, and you get everyone's attention. Yes, that is important to me. Something to do with my superego I'm sure.
The customer experience from Alienware so far has been great as far as I'm concerned. A couple days after I ordered the laptop, Alienware announced free shipping. I called them up, and asked if I could get the free shipping, and they said no problem, and changed my order within a couple minutes. No hassle, no fuss, didn't try to upsell anything to me, just "Sure! No problem!" Combined with my Military Discount, I saved over $200!
Broken hinges, high temps, keyboard unresponsiveness, screen wobble, and insensitive touch pad will all be items to watch for. Compared to problems I've had with other laptops (batteries exploding?!?! OMG! Opening the lid and having it fall off? Ejecting a CD and the the entire drive ejects out of the laptop? Oh yeah, I'm no stranger to laptop issues), these seem like minor issues to me.
Anyways- thanks again for being such a great resource and helping me in my purchase of a laptop! I do have a question:
What kind of RAM is everyone using to upgrade their m15x with? I was trying to find an older thread that mentioned it, and well, my Search Fu here is weak.
Thanks!

I found this one in an old thread, its most likely the one you saw to
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148201 -
that Crucial RAM will do just fine. in general, you want SO-DIMM 200pin DDR2 667mhz PC-5300 (sometimes called 675mhz PC-5400, same thing) RAM, preferably a 2x2Gb kit.

Congratulations and welcome to the family!

oh yeah, congrats on the purchase
got caught up in the technobabble there -

Congrats on the new system! Feel free to message Armando and I if you ever need assistance. The same goes for everyone else
Thanks -
HaHaHa AW-James....way to play it off and give him Armando's name...lol - too funny....
anyway - to the OP - welcome to the AW hive. your assimilation is almost complete.
as far as RAM, what whizzo said. i utilize OCZ in my m15x currently, whizzo lists his as Kingston, and offers Crucial as a great buy, so as you can see the wide array of memory serves each of us well.
again, welcome and Gratz!!!! -

Yup good choice, Just got mine to day, one word... smoking hot.
Yes ryu, I know it's 2 words, but I say it really fast, so it sounds like one word, or whatever.

Because I don't want to be the only one with this RAM lol. But I haven't even ordered it yet. -
i dont need this, but thx...i have OCZ in my unit...
besides, you wont be the only one with the RAM....just maybe the only one in the AW forums... -
i have kingston, and literally no one has that here. boo-hoo

I'm using g.skill with a heat spreader... I also paid 3x the cost of your Corsair value select.
-
yeah, well, heat spreaders... what do you expect? bound to be more expensive.

Are the new M15x owners still having the squeeking screen?
Just wondering if they have done something about the hinge problem...
@Steven hope you can post some comparison pics of the M860tu and the M15x -
25$ might be a bit low. 30-40$ i think. mind you, over here, it's still going at about 75-85$.
-
-
That's a shame! Would have been great to see those side by side.
-
You, my friend, are a hero! Thanks for the link!
+rep for you (and it looks like a M860TU for me)
