    Hey there peeps!

Well the other day I started this thread on overclocking the M15x CPUs using Audigy's SetFSB Auto-Tool.. Only problem is that its not meant for for the M15x, well the corrosponding PLLs at least. So we need people who are willing to open the M15xs and to find that little bugger :D

Here's some information oh how to locate the PLL:
    (I would help but I haven't got a M15x yet )

The PLL IC is usually located in close proximity to the crystal so that helps. Most of the time, you'll find the crystal with the number 14.3 MHz stamped on top in some fashion. Once you've located it, the PLL IC is not far away.

    Examples:
    [IMG] [IMG]

The PLL IC will usually have the manufacturer stamp on it. Possibilities include:

    • ICS
    • Cypress or ICW (Now the same company)
    • Winbond
    • IMI
    • plllabs
    • CMedia
    • Realtek
    • Pericom

After finding the PLL IC model number, see if it is supported:

If the PLL IC matches with one of the above models, congratulations!! You can change the FSB!!

With that information I hope we can succeed in overlocking the M15x!!

Also thanks to Guru3D forums for information Help

and also succeed in voiding your warranty.
i dont think you will find many people willing to try this especially after spending over £2000/$4000

Opening the laptop will void your warranty?
    man that sucks.
You can manually try all the PLLs, if you have the patience.
If none works, the system is not supported.
You can always try to contact the SetFSB creator if you feel the need for more CPU power.

Don´t worry, I´ll open tomorrow or at least this week my m15x to find this lovely number :)

I just hope, it´s supported from SetFSB

unscrewing the back certainly won't void your warranty... if you need to go deeper, hey, markus has already trashed his warranty, so he's your man.

i dont think it will void warranty ô_O
in this forum it was written that changing ram dont void warranty, so how to change ram without voiding warranty?

    other case:
i had to change my keyboard because the left-cursor was broken.
therefor i had to open the m15x, so i got no warranty left?
so i think its bull****, only changing cpu or opening the heatpipe or gpu will void warranty

me2 xD but i dont got time atm, i have much contact with markus, so lets see who is faster, oder we do it together or whatever

no it wont void your warranty opening you base plate or changing your ram but if you try to overclock anything this will.

if im wrong then ignore what ive written.

Nor with OCing, they can`t find that out.
However, if you burn anything from OCing, that`s a dead giveaway.

It's your machines, guys! You may tinker with it as you please, but for your warranty's sake, be cautious about what you open/add/remove.

Warranty can be voided if intentional/accidental damage is spotted by our technicians.

after some extensive looking (without doing anything that would void the warranty), to no surprize, the chip is nowhere to be found.

Exactly. But the m15x runs hot already, and the fan can only do so much.
Which one is that? I`ll give it a try if so.

Heres that post I was talking about: http://portables4gamers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=8953

    Google Translated:

Do not worry this will be short as it is not possible to overclock the Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 through the FSB using SetFSB. It seems qu'Alienware've used on this Area-51 m15x the same PLL used by Dell's XPS M1730, which is unfortunately not yet supported by SetFSB.

But more incredible is the overclocking of Core 2 Extreme X9000, which has the peculiarity of having a multiplier freed up. It is through this that overclocking of this processor is possible via an option generally available in the BIOS. On this Area-51 m15x, it n'éxiste no option to increase the frequency of this processor! Worse, Alienware will not propose specific BIOS to enable it (see this news). A judge you…

Hmm ... I found one PLL on SetFSB, which one is accepted by SetFSB (see picture) ... but as soon as i change something, i mean, as soon as i press the "Set FSB" Button, my screen turns into a white display ... and i have to shut the m15x off?!?!

Is this still the wrong PLL, ore is there any setting which one is wrong?

whizzo, I think now the problem is not finding the PLL, is the compatibility of it since there is actually no one has OC with FSB successfully for m15x, we need new tools!!!

Not sure if the old M17x uses the same pll as the M15x, but you can use the pll code for the Asus G1S (listed in the setFSB readme file), which is the same pll as the old M17x.
