    Hi,
I am new to the forum and but have been reading a lot of the posts on the alienware M17x.

Im purchasing my M17x "all powerful" system this week but I am really confused on the processor side I have two options only either a T9600 2.8ghz or upgrade to Q9000 2.0. My current main config is as follows:

    Intel® Core™2 quad Q9000 or T9600
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
    17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p)
    Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M, 2GB – SLI® Enabled

    My requirement is:
Crysis and Gta playable at 25-30 max fps at full resolution
    Heavy Video editing
Multi track audio recording (sonar, cakewalk, pro-tools)

I would really appreciate any help you can offer and if my sli config is unnecessary for my requirements please let me know. Thanks in advance

You might not get 25+ fps constant out of Crysis at 1920x1200 if you play on Very High. Apart from that either processor will do.

I'd suggest the quad for you though. GTA is VERY dependant on a quad core, video editing will work far better on a quad as well. Anything entertainment related will work best on a quad.

If your going to do heavy video editing, you want a Quad Core processor. Maybe even buying the QX9300 from Dell AW if your budget can take it.

If the budget is somewhat tight I would take the Dual 260m's SLI and spend the extra money on the proc. Because of the prog's you use would require CPU power instead of GPU power. If you do have the extra $€$ go with the 280m's.
