looking at the screen. only against the black background I see like 4 or 5 dead pixels near each other. Only one (or one and a small attached one) is noticeable. Anyone found something ?? What is Dell's policy??
I can also notice that the very bottom of the 1920x1200 screen is illuminated more as if the lamp at the bottom is luminous more than the one at the top. i read it has two lamps..Any ideas

Nobody has had problems getting their screen replaced, should get it done right away..I'm curious when did you order yours, I think you were one of the first Europeans to order?
-
-
Thank you but what about the bottom of the screen..? is this normal? -
According to what I remember of Dell's policy, if you have 1 dead pixel in the center quadrant of the screen, or 2 dead pixels around the edges of the screen, they will replace it
-
-
-
I would tell them about the Dead pixels first and foremost , your talking about lightbleed im assuming which is very common on LCD panels , some have it worse then others but just about all of them have it to some degree.
-
-
It could be a bad lamp, or maybe it isn't connected properly, which may result in less power being delivered to the lamp, and therefor, it would not be as bright as the other.
Either way, you should probably call Dell to get a repair or a replacement -
Quadzilla,
M17x touch media buttons not responding
They are not sensitive at all... I have to press several times to raise or lower the volume or do anything else.. any help will be greatly appreciated -
Thats another common issue of the M17x and it seems everyone has this problem so currently there is nothing that can be done about other then wait for a firmware update to hopefully fix it .
-
Parts of the M17x are awesome and others seem half-baked....
I really hope AW releases some BIOS and FW updates for this stuff. -
The faded portion at the bottom of the screen is fairly standard/normal in this type of LCD. It is also present in mine. Also, if there's a cluster of dead pixels, I'm sure Dell will provide on-site replacement. Just keep in mind that the replacement LCD will also have the faded portion at the bottom.
Update: At times, the sound buttons can seem rather unresponsive (especially if you have dry fingers).
Yet another update (dead pixel policy): http://support.dell.com/support/top...EC97300BA883BBE040AE0AB8E10ED0&doclang=en&cs=
Thanks,

Flat screens are punched out by the thousands, so some defects in workmanship are inevitable. -
-
I'm sure the policy holds true for international as well. As far as the on-site service, I'm not quite sure. Being in the states, I was never sure how they accomplished it internationally.
Thanks,

I was referring to the touch controls, trackpad, and sometimes my system acted goofy and wouldn't wake up from sleep and it wouldn't boot sometimes (took 2 or 3 tries). -
yea they were good about replacing mine due to the dark spots and bleed. And yes, I have issues with the volume up and down not working well on the touch panel.. there is no way I would use a lcd with dead pixels...
-
you CAN get your LCD replaced
you need to call and demand to get it fixed...They know there are problems with the LCD ....
I just know they are raising hell with Samsung because of all the screen issues ...A big manufacturer like Dell NEVER runs out of screens for 2-3 weeks i don't care how popular it is. They are doing something .... -
-
yeah hopefully by the time I order one of these they'll have all this lcd bull fixed. If other companies can have perfect lcds (no dead pixels, no bleeding) on cheaper computers dell should be able to do it on an 1800 dollar one too ffs.
-
Samsung LCDs are NG.
-
they dont care about the screens. the m1730 had WAY WAY more issues with panels and still they continued to use the bad ones. they had the 1730 out for how long and to this day still shipped it with the same panels as always. they will not stop shipping the samsung panels trust me.
-
-
^^^ yup imo im not at all a samsung lcd fan, there larger tv's are actually pretty nice but there desktop monitors imo are just okay and their notebook panels ive always been unhappy with
-
great well I placed my order last night. Not sure now. I'm typing this while looking at my awesome looking samsung 46".. kinda ironic.

Wow on our NBR site alone we have had 3 or 4 M17x's replaced due to the screens... that is not OK, Dell needs to invest in better screens becuase right now... They are losing money everytime one get's returned
-
who has returned theirs because of the screen? I know kilthro(sp?)
-
Biscuits they have been doing this ever since i can remember and they will never change believe me Z factor is correct.
Back in my XPS days over on the other notebookforums people were complaing about bad panels then and having dell swap them 4 and 5 times lol.
So they dont consider it an issue because you have to remember all the machines they sell and only a very small percentage of people will actually complain to the point of asking for a replacement. -
lol not sure if you remember quad or if you ever read the 1730 thread... i had over 12 panels from dell and finally i used my own lg panel and said screw it.. all 12 sucked
-

I know I really want to do so, if I have any problems... but I need to find a compatible panel... Like the Dell M6400 has a RGB LED 16.7million great panel from what I have heard
-
you can not use the led panels. sorry if this sounds rude and i dont mean it to but once again YOU CAN NOT USE THE LED PANELS... i repeat this over and over and over and well ..... a system with ccfl display can not use a led panel without much modification and then it still may not end up working in the end..
again i do not mean to sound rude. i said that in the lcd thread not sure how many times and people still kept asking if it can be done..
and im not picking on you butter or anyone... just please keep that in mind when looking for a panel -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Ok cool, and now I know, thanks Z... Too bad Dell didn't decide to go with the LED backlit in the firstplace
-
Yes well what about replacing it with a better looking dual lamp.. I know AUO has good 1200p lcds and I know personally CMO makes good looking 900p dual lamp screens. The question is will it fit.
-
as long as its a 16:10 it "can" fit. sometimes it may need slight mods to make it fit like removing upper or lower brackets etc but they all have the standard 4 screws on each side.
-
also are dual lamps thicker than single lamp lcds in general? Because I remember the dual lamp CMO was thicker than the single lamps I had.
-
-
One thing to keep in mind. The LCD is sealed and is one peace with the inside part part of the lid.. So if you are going to replace it and crack open the internal half of the lid ( the glossy part on the inside with alienware logo) you better be extra careful and be in a clean room.. God forbid some dust/hair gets in there.. it will annoy the crap out of ya..
Honestly I think it would be a P.I.T.A. to just swap out the panel itself inside the lid.. It was just bad enough having to swap that portion with another sealed one, much less crack it open and then making sure it seals back correctly.
*cough* can we get rgb led for the M17x? *cough*.....
lol
j/k couldn't resist. -
It's like GM: they come up with the best car they've had in years--Malibu--them go put in an obsolete 4 cylinder transmission rather than upgrade to the now industry standard 5 cylinder transmission. Is it any wonder this auto maker fails? -
you mean you don't have a clean room? wierd.
-
ROFL Yea it was more of a statement as I know most ppl dont have a "clean room" I mean come on..
Here's the kitchen, living room, basement , pool table, oh yea and my clean room.. ahahaha -
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
No you cant, the M17x is set up to recieve a CFL screen... it is not a simple switch, even another CFL screen would take modifications to allow it...
-
Found Dead pixels in the M17x PLUS light at the bottom of the LCD
