Thought some people could potentially be interested in this procedure :) so I thought I would share it.

I did NOT create this album and I can't find it anywhere in the forums unless I just suck at searching. I found it in the Alienware subreddit on Reddit.

If this belongs to someone already here I apologize and can bring it down if so requested.

Dang, that person when to a lot of extra trouble and expense, LOL. Would have been faster, easier and a cleaner job to just disassemble the display and color coat the bare metal lid.

Maybe, but the pastidip isn't permanent and can be removed if he changes his mind as well :)

I'm not exactly sure why you would want to do this anyway, for all the supposed risk and hassle of doing it. But eh I don't really like altering a machine anyway.

This is hands down the most ridiculous thing one can do. The AW14 is bare aluminium anyway. I am not sure what plastidip is but if its anything like spraypaint it is THE most inferior thing to put on an untreated aluminium base without a base coat

Plastidip is basically a sprayable rubber coating that you can apply to pretty much any surface. It also just peals off. People have been known to coat their cars in it, although a more popular option is just doing the wheels or badges.

Ah, interesting find. I still would not take a risk like that on my baby but to each his own :)

Interesting. When I came here I though he was Plastic dipping his motherboard. Which some of us have been known to use something like this for. Did not know he was doing the cover.
And as mentioned earlier, it's completely reversible while protecting the "bare metal" So not really the most ridiculous idea out there. Although as Fox suggested he could have taken it apart and done it allot quicker and cleaner, that's for sure. Now if he didn't feel comfortable with that, then doing it his way is perfectly fine. :)

I know, I wonder if a sheet of carbon fiber wrap and an exacto (or utility) knife will suffice. I'd only get it to wrap the outside and not the bezels around the screen or keyboard.

To keep it dry when extreme over clocking is in force. Usually something like phase change/casscade/dry ice/ln2 or in our case, temps below 0 Celsius the board would start to condensate. This line of protection protects it.

This nicest thing about this is the fact that it is NOT stock. That alone almost makes it a good idea, LOL. It's unique even if the look and color choice isn't your favorite. They used to offer a choice red and black so there was a 50% chance of having something out of the ordinary among other Alienware owners, but now they're all belly-button clones.

Here's something that looks really awesome... more so that an overlay decal.

    ...and it looks really durable...
