Ok I am frustrated...I thought it was Alien vs. Predator 3 at first, but now I just bought Crysis and Warhead and I am having the same issue!

I did a clean reformat a few days ago so no junk is on the system.

    All drivers are current etc.

The problem is the game runs FINE at first...I am running 1900x1080 on HIGH settings and am getting a stable 30fps which I am happy with, but after a few minutes it COMES to a crawl, id say 10-15 FPS...then maybe after 20-30 seconds goes right back UP to 30-40fps...WHAT gives?? The same thing happened with AvP. I am all patched up through steam etc.

I thought it was AUDIO because right when the problem occurs I hear a clicking static noise. I disabled Alienfusion just incase that was the problem but I am still having issues.

Memory leak? I played WoW on this machine since I bought it and have never had a problem....then again, it runs so smooth maybe I just never noticed...

    Quick rundown on my machine:

    Alienware M15x
    i7 720
    250gb 7200hdd
    260gtx videocard
    onboard sound

sounds like you are experiencing the throttling issue. This is one issue of the M15x. It can be solved by doing whats mentioned in this thread:

i don't think its throttling, its just those games a crazy demanding, try lowering the res and lowering the quality to medium instead of high.

he shouldnt be having the same problem on both games. if he needed to lower the settings the framerate would lower when the actions going on, not after x amount of time. sounds like a throttle issue

true could be throttling, but both those games are very poorly ported. guess you have to try it with the throttle fix to see if anything changes, good luck.

well, the games might not be demanding (well, Crysis actually is). But I still think that throttling also depends on what you run in the background. I remember that L4D throttled after I installed all the applications I needed (avast + skype) but would not throttle on a clean installation
