Hi,
Do you think if the futur Core 2 Extreme X9100 3,06 GHz will be in the MX15 ?
and which GPU will be propose by Alienware with it?
Thanks for your answers...

Anything is possible

Well, think of the bright side: when your laptop catches on fire from the heat, you can use it to burn even more money!
-
lol... oh our wry humour is becoming terribly characteristic of this section of NBR.
-
X9100 belongs to centrino 2.
-
I think the X9100 3.06 ghz would have a fsb 1066
Ops forgot the 0 in the cpu. -
-
IMO, according to specification, the socket P will fit, electrically, however, the Northbridge (the GMA965) will only support an FSB of 800... So the multiplier would have to be set even higher, aprox. 15x. I don't think the mobo will support that multiplier... as the highest CPU it's designed to support is the X9000 (14x mult).
So, along with everyone else, I'd say it's POSSIBLE, but unlikely... I'd have to look up the specs for the Northbridge to really have a good idea. -
If you want homemade pancakes easily accesible on the go, sure!
-
In simple words, if the X9000 is downclocking, the X9100 will downclock without a doubt. That and there is hardware limitations of the mobo.
-
btw, why would ANYONE want a FASTER chip in this thing? is the extra 300Mhz going to be worth the risk?
... hell, I couldn't even justify the X9000 (~300Mhz faster than my T9300) for a little over $500... or was it more? I really can't recall.
IMO, to even attempt to put the X9100 into the m15x is stupid... -
Mainly just for bragging rights i guess
-
I dont think M15X or M17X will be able to support it. Due to the FSB.
-
Don´t worry, as soon as i get the first ES, I´ll try it anyway ...
Then I can say you more!
And also i get nex month the first mobile quad QX9300 ....but I have not realy much hope, that´s going to work ... but we´ll see next month!

alienware has released pre overclocked sistems...
IMO they may release x9000 based sistems with a updated bios with more agressive fan settings.. and clocked at higher speeds like 3gigs +
they have done sim things on desktops.. it all deps if they update the cooling or add more agressive fan settings (if possible).
i just hope that if they do this they release that updated bios to the public.. would be nice for x9000 users.
regardless i think alienware will focus on getting the best GPU's in the M15x and M17x .. over any thing els... they are a gaming brand.
ATI and Nvidia mobile cards use the same slot right?.. if the m15x cant take the 9800m GTX due to heat im fairly sure it will take what ever is benchmarking the most later this year even if they have to put in load high RPM fans...
while some people say the m15x is at its thermal limit i disagree as its not the loudest of gaming laptops around is it?..atm every thing beside the x9000 cpu down clocking seems to be functioning correctly even if its abit hot.. it still runs no one has reported dead GPUs due to heat or artifact... it looks like they are just balancing the heat to noise ratio. I think they will push as much out of this chassis for another year or so to get the most from there investment in the m15x chassis. so yer to say its at its hardware limit atm seems foolish to me expect more things to come!.
Look how long they used the m9750 chassis for example over 2 years if i'm not mistaken. -
Lot's of people reported GPUs being substituted. Like myself... Cheers for the desinformation we are always thrown around here.
-
@Heath - I'll explain a few things about the M9750 and everything.
The M9700 used a Turion processor which pretty much sucked. It was still a single core processor while almost all other SLi notebooks used Core 2 Duo. Because of this, AW revised the M9700 to the M9750 which incorporated the Core 2 Duo. So yes they did use the M9750 chassis but I think the M9700 series had efficient cooling already that putting in a C2D wasn't a huge deal at all.
In addition, it doesn't matter how loud the laptop is at all. My m5550 was pretty quiet a lot of the time and the GPU downclocked constantly at 96C so I'm assuming they could have ramped up the fans, or maybe they couldn't which is why the problem wasn't ever fixed. Just because a laptops fan doesn't spin that fast doesn't mean that you can automatically just make it run faster and faster without cutting down the life of the fans.
It seems that looking at AW's track record they will only have the penyrn in the M15x until they really can't have it in it anymore. For example, look at AW's transition time between the Pentium M and the Core Duo, that took FOREVER. Then they upgraded to the C2D quickly because it was the same socket type. They will probably release a "new" M15x in the LATE future with a new CPU socket if they really feel like it, but chances are if they don't think it will impact sales they won't do it.
In addition, since the X9000 is downclocking already, they why would they put a hotter CPU card in there? I don't know if you understand this but I've been to many different forums and everyone there says that running a card near 100C isn't good at all for it. I'll actually take the time later today to ask my friends dad who is a computer technician what he thinks. Gabe could also throw in a few words since he works as a on site tech for dell I believe.
Basically if AW does this they are going to be stressing the laptop out a lot. When they first built this laptop, they had certain specs for everything to run at. They have already boosted the speed of the fans from what they should have been originally. I think they should work on the X9000 downclocking before which could mean like you said adding better cooling.
Also, just to clear this final bit up, AW is a "gaming" brand. As I said before they had the M5500 for awhile even when most other companies were using Core Duo. This basically put them behind the curve a lot and they just never upgraded until much later. In addition, the M5550 had the 7600Go 256mb, while an Asus 14" notebook had a 7700go 512mb which further proved my feeling that AW was a "gaming" brand. -
yer well its a unknown what the max speed the m15x fans can run at just like i said and you repeated (read moar?).. thats why i said they may have to replace them. if they do that..
basically i think they will push the SR and the x9000 as far as it can go before the make a new mobo. and i would only expect a mobo upgrade by the time quadcore mobile goes main stream which is prob outside of the lifespan of the m15x case regardless.
in regard to the hole GPU temp... nvidia didn't for example say a 7600 gs was safe running at any thing higher than 80c... but they say the 8800m GTX can run at any thing under 105c safely .. applying general rules to some standardized notion of the limits of all GPUs is silly i would go with the manufacturers word over old wives tales.
as much as people fear ALienware making them run a hot gpu that will die soon nivida them selves say 105 and under is fine... and its in their interest to give a larger safe margin as a failed product damages their brand name. as soon as some one reports gfx distortion due to high temps or a fried GPU i would start to call fowl but there is no call for it atm as far as the GPU is concerned.
processes change materials change ... clearly the 8800m GTX is outside the old norms
also milcs how responding to a thread of possible upgrades with what i see as possible future upgrades disinformation.. ? maybe just progressive speculation you don't want.
your not happy with your m15x you have made it clear 100s of times why dig into me?
thats what the OP asked for "possible not confirmed" you clearly don't respect me so why not take what i say with a larger grain of salt in a speculation thread? -
Yea that makes sense. It think the key things here are replacing the heatsink for a more powerful one. I think if they could do that it could solve a lot of problems. Since silver transfers heat well maybe we could have a whole silver heatsink made by the same people who made AS5
So yea basically they need a more powerful heatsink, or at least fix the CPU before risking putting in a more powerful GPU. -
You can't be objective and until you manage to, I will respect your person, but not what you have to say. The vast majority of your posts are completely biased into praising AW and the wonders they are planning to do with their laptops. Obviously, this is information you AND ONLY you, possess... But well. I'm sure you are going to say I'm biased and I only flame them... But again, this will only reveal your lack of information.
Anyway, I just want you to be aware that several people got their GPUs substituted. Just look around... So sentences like "...it still runs no one has reported dead GPUs due to heat or artifact..." are really devoid of any truth. Regarding the "progressive speculation", I think that you do it quite well.
To finish... and so that everyone understands... I LOVE MY M15x. Ok? Cheers then.
M.
EDIT: And yes, a new cooling solution it's all we would all wish to see in the M15x. -
If you look at the coolers one thing i've noticed is the CPU side cooler seems to be alot smaller than the potential space it can fill ... with green lines showing unused space
with annotations \/
the GPU cooler looks like it couldn't really be enlarged. But the small CPU cooler has always interested me. im no thermal engineer but i guess that would help?
also foxcon are a high performance motherboard manufacture .. they make mobos with liquid nitrogen mounting tubes that ship with it in the box... they are also the brand of the m15x heat pipes and sinks and fans 2 i guess so i think the m15xs cooling solution is prob made of some high quality materials already foxcon do some extrema stuff!.Attached Files:
