Hi guys, I was reading about these new Coolers being shown at CeBit 2009 and thought they were worth a mention.
It seems that high end coolers for 15 - 17" notebooks, that work well are pretty rare.
1st is X-Wing R1 and the other called Glacial Pad G1
2nd is Arctic Cooling is working on a compact, portable notebook cooler
3rd is Akasa, active notebook cooler
I think the G1 looks interesting...
When I get more info i'll post it...

interesting, nice find. +rep for you. still, without hard specs on the coolers (fan size, number, placement, RPM) it'll be hard to judge performance.
-
When we actually start to see benchmarks, that's what's important.
-
thanks for the find and i hope they turn out perfect
so i can finally get a cooler

Are you having overheating Mr. Moo?

Thanks Whizzo, when i hear more i'll keep you guys posted.
I was interested mainly because they are now making coolers for up to 17" notebooks which covers the M15X, M17X and M17 nicely.
There's also been an improvement in fan manufacturing and there performance, so new coolers should perform better.

many modern coolers support 17" already - nc2000 by zalman, or the cryo lx from nzxt work nicely with larger notebooks. still, new and improved technology is always nice.

Ohhhh Yess!!! (in a father style voice lol)
I'm still looking for a cooler for my "top air intake" M17X...
The Cry looks like a good contender at the moment, even though i don't really need cooling but, it's nice for longeavity.
OB -
the air still goes out the back, right? so any of the "modern" coolers would work - they just wouldn't support the fans, but "only" push cool air against the bottom of the lappy.

Yeah the air flows out the back... nice and warm lol
There are vents across the whole of the bottom, RAM, HDD & GPU's so i guess that a cooler would blow cool air up through the chassis, cooling as it went, so to speak?
I'll see how the new ones pan out, or i'll just get a Cryo...

I'm actually a little sad - I went ahead and added one of the coolers from the alienware site to my order back when I placed it, and sadly before I found all the wonderful info in these forums on laptop coolers. I'd have probably waited and got a different one...
though hopefully the one they send will at least be OK!

If you're talking about the X-brand cooler, I have it, and it works very well.
-
Yep, that's the one...
glad to hear that it works well - I was hoping that it'd be decent, but didn't find much on the x-brand website. My previous cooler had been a targus chillmat that, frankly, didn't last very long (fan issues...)
Thanks for the positive report, though - it'll give me one less thing to worry about! -
