We predominantly have 3 versions,
AMD GPU with Switchable Sandy Bridge ( many have claimed the switch is manual which is good but does the AMD gpu throttle down on its own and not configurable? )
NVIDIA GPU with Switchable Sandy Bridge via Optimus ( Optimus is known to have problems while playing games. This is being reported in Dell XPS 15 latest releases)
N VIDIA GPU with 3D but without Switchable Sandy Bridge gpu. ( The was a thread about this throttling and most of the people complaining owned this version)
No one as per my knowledge confirmed this issue for all versions. This is important.
Batboy has thus far mentioned that this has been the case in M15x , M17x R1 & R2. However I am yet to visibly experience this. I think this has to be highlighted so that individuals who are buying R3 thinking its got a 4 or 6 hour of battery life do know that they would face a problem to play games somewhat while on battery mode.
PLUS it should be made clear to everyone, that those choosing the 3D version over the non 3D may unknowingly loose out on the capacity of the Sandy Bridge GPU because it is far more superior in encoding etc versus AMD 6970m or NVIDIA 460M/485M.
Those who are totally into 3D can of course disregard this if the dont need such efficiency in GPU processing prowess but for those who need , the may realise that only after buying and then reading it on Notebookreview.com...![]()

vads, we have a thread in place for this. There is no need for another thread. This is a long standing policy here on NBR (all forums) - multiple threads on the same topic are not needed nor permitted.

GPU Throttling when using R3 on battery. Is it happening on all 3 versions of R3?
