    And a 980M is 122W :D
    Quoting from the site:
"Another interesting detail is that the chip will obviously not be available as a MXM solution, but will instead be soldered directly onto the motherboard. This should be due to the high power consumption and custom cooling solutions." ----> I guess this is farewell to the MXM?
I believe if Dell/AW sells the chip, it will impact It's crap-graphic-amp sales. Because only the 980Ti & the titan will be worth using the amp.

I was waiting for thr next big thing after the 980m to upgrade and now it seems like these days are over. I will just get a 980m and stay with it till the end of its usable life and stop gaming then :(

I found this in their comments section (normally I don't like to re-post commercial postings)

That gives hope for a MXM solution. Or maybe not.

Going to be a nightmare in Alienware systems. The power supplies are inadequate for the 980M. This has an even higher TDP.

    Have fun throttling!

This Alienware 18 is my first "gaming" Notebook. I swear. I am going back to desktop PCs after this one unless the situation improves.

You can get a fully decked-out laptop with a GTX 980M for about that much.

While this is true, if the specs from the leak are to be believed, the 990m will be the same performance as two 980m's in sli. People who really want the best of the best will have to shell out for the premium.

True, same with the 980M when it was first released.
However, I think $2000 is insane! = two Titan X. And Nvidia will probably release a newer chip (1XXX) after a few months from the 990M.

I fully agree, 2k for just a graphics card is purely insane. The final price for a laptop with the 990m might well be astronomical in the 3k-4k region. However i do think there is a market for such a machine, if there were wealthy university students as such or professionals who are always on the move and need the horsepower, you will effectively get a desktop that can move. I sure as hell will bet my dollar that this said laptop will have a 4790k or some other desktop cpu as well. It will truly be a beast to behold.

    They'll never be that fast. Expect a token 20 - 30% increase over 980m's

Even if that were the case, that is greater than or equal to the desktop 970 performance which in itself is extremely impressive in the size of a laptop.

That's probably why they left the MOSFET chips off the end of the GTX 980M cards... just add those chips, toss in some extreme vRAM, bump the clocks a little, some firmware tweaks, add water, stir gently over low heat for 5 minutes and *BOOM* sell it for twice the price as 990M. Then, as icing on the cake, support it will goofed up drivers that cause instability and/or destroy LCD panels.
