picardsm, did you have the problem before switching drivers or did you start out without the the nVidia controller?

I started without the driver. I had an issue with it during one of my clean installs and figured I wasn't using Raid so I really didn't need it.

DR650SE did you try it without the driver?

sorry for the long response but i am not in the mood to deal with alienware nor dell
waste of time talking to them

anyway I did what they asked me to do which was reinstall windows
that did not help as I have the same problem
but I used the disc they gave me and not a clean install then add all my drivers like I would normally do

I finally called back and after a long wait they took my info ( which they should have had already) and told me they would call back in an hour

    That was yesterday

I am betting it could be that the bios needs to set to raid or the driver is the problem

I just sent the laptop back. Tired of dealing with it and was going to get the R-2. Now it looks like theres issues with that. So I'm not sure if' I'll order it or not. I just have an M11X ordered though. Well see what comes if the R2 issues.

I was going to just say good luck but I was interested in this r2 you mentioned

OMG I see they offer it with a 640 gig second drive
What is the problem with our laptops then and why cant the people that built it fix it?

I just called my rep and left him a message that I want to return this one and maybe get the other one

care to elaborate on the issues with r2?

There is some sort of power issue involving the 920xm. The premilinary guess is that the components of the system are drawing too much power. Between the RGB, ATI's, and 920, the screen starts to flicker understress. Not sure what other problems are involved, but the dell engineers from alienware took Jokers laptop for analysis. He should have an update on Wed.

If anybody is still having problems with booting after adding a second hard drive dell has a storage driver removal tool that worked for me

its for windows 7 only and 64 bit only too i believe
    R260171 is the number
its listed under system utilities under windows 7 64 bit
    good luck
