Yep, made sure the vents are clean. I constantly use hwmonitor, and i've recently upgraded to x36 so its running slightly cooler.
But its still lagging like (even on the lowest of settings possbile, inc res).
I ran furmark, and it hit 99 degrees.

So the vents are clean, have you opened it up and made sure the heatsink fins, etc are also clean? Cleaning the inside can make a big difference.

And Furmark will push the GPUs.. mine will almost hit 90c with furmark. The program doesn't rely on any CPU so it's a good stress test.

Also, just an idea.. you can try reapplying the AS5 on GPU as well if you're up for that. I'm not real familiar with these rigs, is this a common problem?

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with overheating. Any other ideas?

if your gpu is maxing out at 99c I'm pretty sure it might. I don't know at what temp your thermal zone cuts gpu clocks.. But it's safe to assume that the manufacturer didn't want it hitting 100c. And if furmark gets ya there then it may have something to do withheat. That is NOT a safe operating temp. I could be wrong, but um.. Sure sounds like your temps are outta whack and that would explain a lot. I saw another thread bout accidentally cleaning the nvidia chipset with driver cleaner.. I did that once, and it gave me similar problems to what you and he are having. Have you explored that? Did you start having this problem shortly after a driverinstall? Did u use driver sweeper? I mean.. Typically two things downclock a GPU. Temperatures, or drivers. It shouldnt be that difficult to troubleshoot. And from the problem you are experiencing, sounds like a downclock. Just tryin to help, I may be entirely wrong.

Well, the reason I assume it's not the temprature, is because when I boot it up even in intergrated, flash games will stutter, the same as the 8800gtx. So it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the gfx card. Hence my only other thing is the hdd.

I'm pretty sure it's not the OS, because it does it in windows xp as well. (on the other partition).
