    How's it going everyone,
I know I saw this thread in the past, but no real solution was found in order to make Gears of War run properly. Also, I wasn't currently running the game back then, so I was unaware of the issues. Some say it's a poor port from Xbox 360 to PC. However, I'm beginning to think it's more of a problem with either Vista or the 8700s not being able to keep up. Oddly enough, switching from medium to high to highest doesn't really make much of a difference. I get random pauses where it seems like the textures are too much for the computer. It's almost as if it's trying to load something. Nothing is loading in the background, and it isn't overheating. It seems like it bogs down exceptionally on the new levels that were added for the PC version. I usually play all my games around 1280 x 800, and it's quite discouraging when my Asus G1 (Nvidia 7700go and not even SLI) is playing gears of war with the same settings and everything on high flawlessly.

Change your drivers to the 175.65 (modded edition). They actually make a difference.

    Hi Stone,
I was actually going to give the 175.63 drivers a shot from Xtreme G. I thought I might play around with Nhancer as well. What are your results with 175.63 as opposed to 175.65? Also, just out of curiosity, since I can't find it on laptopvideo2go, where did you get 175.65?

    Thanks,
    Gabe

The link provided by Stone825 actually takes you to the 175.63 drivers I'm testing right now. Both XP and Vista.

it Does support SLI, actually it gives up to 80% benefit (so does all Unreal Engine 3 games)

    and @ OP:
with the XG mobile driver i run the game at constant 58-62FPS all maxed out, texture on very high, Post Processing on Intense and res 1440x900, give those drivers a shot
