Well apparently the GTS 160 has less power consumption (60 watt) then a 9800M GT and the same performance of a 9800M GTX. Oh and has 1 GB of GDDR3.

Anyone know if this is really true? because that would seem like a useful upgrade. Getting a card that runs cooler but preforms better.

i don't think so... from what i remember, the GTX 260M is the rough equivalent (or even rebrand?) of the 9800m-gtx. i don't see the 160M getting similar performance numbers. do you have any sources?

The 160M is the equivalent of the 9800M GTS with lower power consumption.

The 260M is a 10% higher clocked 9800M GTX with 65W power consumption opposed to 75W of the 9800M GTX.

    Hope that clears things out.

    No, it has 65W.

This is because the 100/200M generation uses the 55nm technology while the 9000M/8000M series is using the 65nm technology. In other words, the 100/200M uses a technology that makes the GPU run cooler, drawn less power and be cheaper in comparision to the 9000M series.

    Thanx Whizzo.
