    Hi all.

I'm about to order an m17x-r2. At the moment I can only get 1 4870.

Once I'm able to purchase a second should I be able to get it from dell? Or somewhere else (i.e dabs). (I think there's a video on this forum somewhere regarding graphics installation).

    Thanks.

I'd wait until two are available. Upgrading later is very expensive. Maybe call Dell and ask if they could offer you the M17x-R2 with 2x 4870s in crossfire even though it's not available on the website. Otherwise wait a bit for 4870s in crossfire to be available or even 5870s which are likely going to be offered in March at latest.

Thanks Glzmo. I'm not too bothered about waiting 5870s, i'm not sure they will be a massive improvement over the 4870s anyway. And you can bet they will be a shed load more expensive for potentially a 10-20% increase?

    I'll give them a ring I guess.

    Thanks.

You could potentially add one later but it'd be very expensive. If you're going to get a multi-GPU config in a laptop, you should get it right from the start.

Yeah I noticed the UK site only had single 4870s.......do not get a single 4870, 4870x2 is what these machines were built for.
    good luck.

It wasn't available on UK Dell website but when I called they configured it with dual gpu's. And I got around 12% discount.might order next week if my refund money comes in.
