We were talking about this on the sales redux thread, but I figured I'd start a new thread to focus on this question.
Can anyone who got the $200 student gift card or other gift cards from Dell after purchasing something tell me how long it took for them to receive it? If they received it at all.

I have not received my 5% card yet...thinking of contacting my rep to find out what I should have expected. I had delivery of my machine on 7/12 so I'd have thought I would have it by now.

I was told by my sales rep that it doesn't get emailed until after you can no longer return the laptop. This is understandable considering the amount of people that would take advantage of the promotion and simply spend the gift card before they return the laptop.

What...that's ridiculous. They charge a 15% restocking fee already which is more than the $200 usually. The only way to get a free refund was if you let them fix it and they can't. If they can't fix it then it would be their fault.

All I know is that my Dell rep told me 20-30 days after....

Got mine 14 days after I received my first laptop. $200 and 5% gift cards were combined. Was ironically the day after I returned it.

Wow Kovalen that is fast. Maybe I'll get mine that quick too hopefully. Since you returned it, I'm guessing they canceled the cards.

It took me over a month to get mine (I got the laptop mid/late May, got the card early July), I had to contact a rep to get them to send it. She said there were some delays but then again, other people got theirs quick. If you don't get it weeks after getting the computer, contact customer service.

Well, if you use it they take it out of the refund, so I didn't want to chance it.

Does anyone have a plan on what you're actually going to use them for? My rep says they're only good for dell stuff which kinda bums me out.

Good for anything in the store.. which shocked me how much crap they are selling. With the 200 gift card you can save even more on the decent prices they usually have there (at least the LED TVs.. many were the same as Amazon)

Did they send you all an e-mail when they shipped out your gift cards?

I am planning on using $60 or so on the Alienware Headset. Haven't decided on what to do with the rest yet.

Which leads to another question. Can I use giftcard for tax and shipping expenses, or do I have to pay that separate?

It works like a normal giftcard so yes. But you should get free shipping by signing up for Dell Advantage anyway :).

The "gift cards" in question are sent by EMAIL and they are a code I believe which you use on Dell.com for anything they sell. If you have dell advantage and you SHOULD since you get 5% cash back then you also get free 2nd day shipping. I have no idea what I plan on buying... Maybe a 3DS or a laptop cooler or tactx keyboard. I have about $270 coming to me with the student gift card and the 5% back on my M17x. Its amazing how quick Dell would bother you if you missed a payment on your laptop but the moment they owe you money or a gift card it takes them 30 days to get it to you. HURRY UP DELL!

I ordered my laptop on 7/6 and just received the gift card this morning. Its a bummer that I'm in the process of returning the laptop as I received it damaged so the card will have to be forfeited until another gets sent with the new laptop. :(

It actually depends, sometimes they send physical cards. I've earned four gift cards total through Dell and two were actual cards and two were e-mail codes. It would be nice if they were all given out using codes...much faster.

Got both my gift cards nearly a full month after having received my laptop (laptop arrived on 7/3, gift cards separately on 8/2 - student and 8/4 - 5% cash back) in the mail. Unfortunately they weren't combined as the rep said they would be, does anyone know how to use multiple promo gift cards on a single purchase?

Apparently you can call customer service and they can combine them but I haven't tried yet.

Strange, on the website it says you can't combine promotional gift cards. Going to try anyway... beats returning everything I bought and reordering again.

Yeah, I don't know, that's just what a rep said. But I might have been a special case with how many issues I had getting the cards.

You can try, I think I called after 30 days or so had passed and the rep said the cards were delayed. It took weeks to actually get them after that, I'm not sure if calling really helped. Then again, maybe I'd still be waiting if I hadn't.

Is it possible to transfer these gift cards to someone else or are they tied to your account?

Given everything you can get what should I get with mine? I lack an SSD on my new laptop so I was thinking of getting an SSD as an upgrade to it later on.

I won't mind. I plan to figure out the arrangement with a 750GB drive I happened to get so it will run 2 of them initially then I'll "side" run it by replacing one of the 750GB HDD with a 256GB SSD so trade capacity for speed but honestly I don't really need more than 1TB inside the thing when I got 3.5TB worth of external drives lugging around with me.
