Well, although I haven't been on this forum or this section too long, I am saying goodbye to Alienware. I have just purchased the ASUS W90Vp-X1 from Newegg.
For a little background, a have a M15x which I bought second hand for a nice price. I should have been happy but as days wore on, I wasn't. First was the fact that despite the core two Core 2 Duo T9600(2.80GHz), I have the quadro card. I now know that this isn't the best gaming card. I now know that this was far from the best gaming laptop. That all was troublesome but the real nightmare began when I found this forum. When I found out that the 3 year Alienware warranty was as useful as some pre-chewed gum. When I found out that not only Alienware would have nothing to do with me, but some of the stories I have read on this forum about how original owners were being treated by alienware. Now it all was making me feel sick about what I now own!. Even through the nightmarish Customer Service stories, I really wanted a better gaming laptop. I really wanted an M17. I inquired here about switching cards. Learned a lot and even though was about to pull the trigger on an Ebay 8800gtx, something stopped me. I then started playing around on Alienware's site customizing an M17 with sli video cards yada yada. The whole time wondering when/if my hinges would bust through and I broke out the crazy glueAnyway, I ordered a extra Skullcap lid from Cyberinfinity on ebay as an insurance policy in case I did fall victim. So I sat back a few days and try to convince myself to be happy and not worry. Well, without saying I couldn't help going back again and again to customize the M17 and kept staring at that 4k thinking, if I spend this and have an experience like I am reading about, I would lose my mind. SO I have to end my ranting by saying this and I hope it doesn't sound pompous...
ALIENWARE:
I would have paid 4k for you laptop. I am cheesy like that and was hypnotized by the fancy lights and sexy alienhead.
Although some stories may be stretched in favor of the buyer. Perception is reality and one doesn't need to read much on the web to get a feel for what appears to be terrible customer service.
I am now happy about your policy of non transferable warranty and your reputation for horrendous customer support.
I feel like I am now getting a better machine, for half the price and a warranty that can transfer to a new owner should I decide I am ready to move on to a different laptop.
I wanted your laptop, I REALLY did. But in the end your bad reputaion scared me off.

Congratulations, enlightened one! I always warn people from buying AW when I can.
-
IVAr who do you recommend then?
-
Perhaps better if posted on the AW site or an email to them...
Good Luck. -
the m17 is a totally differnt story then the m15x ... all my CS has been awsome and sorry for your problems.... but good buy with the asus
and good luck
-
Well it's unfortunately that you choosed to veer away from AW but I hope you enjoy the Asus.
But, most of the threads on this site will be about people getting bad support from their NB manufactuer in one form or another. People who get good CS or a good NB will rarely post on this site or any site about their experience. They're too busy enjoying their NBs.
When I go into the Dell forum, I see bad Dell CS and NB threads.
When I go into the HP forum, I see bad HP CS and NB threads.
I have not been in any forum and have not seen a thread where no one wasn't having an issue with their NB, including Sager.
Reason HP, Dell, and AW get a lot of slack is because they are big companies. This doesn't give them a pass and give them the right to give us poor CS. But the bigger you are the chances of you providing bad CS and a bad NB will be greater. -
Glad your happy. You must be one of the first with that Asus. I've been waiting to see what Clevo and Alienware did with the new ATI cards before making a move.

question....
why blame AW for your lack of consumer knowledge about the product and associated warranties etc....??
you should be blaming the person that you purchased the unit from for not telling you the warranty did not transfer...not AW. AW does not know you have intended to purchase a system from another person.
seems you fell prey to "peer pressure" and now need to place blame.
sorry you feel this way, but the m15x is an awesome machine...yes there are a few bad apples in the basket...but that happens with anything, anywhere, anytime...
GL to you though.
ps: if you had searched the AW forums you would have come to know you could have flashed the quad card into thinking it was an 88xx series card. we also could have helped more with other items...but not the warranty.
Goodbye Alienware!!!!!
