This is supposed to be a performance thread on GTA V.
This game is surprising good on my old little alien on high details.
Alienware 14 (gt 750m)
At the same time Maxed Out disappointed me on my Desktop: with Very High details is good
Alienware Aurora R4 ALX (7970ghz)
But then i tried it Maxed out and the pc can t halndle it with max AA. (at 4x AA it s 30 fps )
I was just waiting to upgrade gpu and Titan X or 980 ti are 2 options

It does run really nice on the Titan-X, but that is no surprise
If your 7970 desktop card is slower than the 750M, then there is an issue with the setup. -
it was with different settings!
desktop can t handle it maxed out, if i set AA x2 it s perfect! But i think 23" monitor needs AA x4 (min) -
come on pple, we re all playng GTA V !

Waiting for the price to drop to $20 on a Steam sale, so not playing it yet.

Same here.. Waiting for a few months as I have a lot of games to play currently

Yeah, spending $50 to $60 for a new game always makes me feel sick to my stomach. I'd rather just wait and buy GTA V and Witcher 3 and have money left over than spend the same amount for one game. As you indicated... I have plenty of games to keep me busy while waiting for the prices to drop. I've got dozens of essentially untouched games that I have never found time to play, and dozens more that I quit playing about half way through because I had more important things to do.
But, as luck would have it I'll probably buy one of them for about $10 in a few days. I had a $40 Best Buy Rewards certificate that was about to expire, so I ordered two $20 Steam cards.
Which one should I go for? GTA V or Witcher 3? I'm open to suggestions, as I am not a huge fan of the genre (I much prefer first-person over third-person, or open-world, RPG) so I don't know which one is the better choice. I'm leaning toward Witcher 3 because it's such a resource pig that I can use it for benching.Solo wing and Nhirlathothep like this. -

I would go with GTA V. I have Witcher 3 on my pc and I can't even play it for more than 30 minutes, sometimes I just go and play GTA V on my xbox 360 instead. I don't really know what people see with Witcher games, I have never enjoyed playing them. I always end gifting them or just erasing them.
IMHO there are more old rpgs that are way better than Witcher 3. I'm not talking about graphics, I'm talking about game mechanics, user interface, challenges, etc.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Good for GTA5 brother Fox. It has a First Person view which is really good.. Perhaps more importantly for you, also has an actual benchmark mode.
-
if u buy TW3 this year or later, it s the same. (SP game)
Otherwise GTA V has Multiplayer features, and if u play it too late, u lose some contents (btw next year it s not toolate! )
-
I did not know that about the first-person mode... that sounds great. The benchmark also sounds good. The one thing I dislike about the GTA franchise is the glorification of corruption. That part really bothers me. Maybe I am just too old school and traditional values, but having fun with crime, drugs and prostitution just doesn't seem right. The excessive profanity and vulgarity is just unwarranted as far as I am concerned. (And we wonder why kids are messed up, LOL.)
Things were a lot cleaner and more wholesome when all we did was kill everything that moves.
Well, that part won't be a problem. I almost never do online mulitplayer and don't even install the multiplayer half of games if it is not required for the single player campaign portion. I don't care for it. I have probably played less than 40 hours of online multiplayer gaming my entire lifetime. To this day I refuse to purchase Titanfall (love the game, but hate not having campaign) because I dislike online gameplay... closest I have ever come to enjoying that is LAN gameplay with a small group of family and close friends. Then I can actually enjoy playing instead of having the experience ruined by potty-mouthed "experts" that spoil the experience for everyone that doesn't have a life outside of their favorite game. There is no room for enjoyment by people that don't have the maps memorized with hundreds of hours of gameplay on a specific title under their belt.Solo wing likes this. -
Haha yeah. The first person mode is great, especially when it comes to shooting. Fair point about the glorification of corruption. I do however think it gets a lot right by deliberately mirroring back and highlighting how vapid and mindless pop culture has become.
There may still be things that annoy you, but if you can tough through it there is a lot to love about the detailed open world they've built. -
Just don't take GTA V too seriously (and how can you with Trevor?) and just enjoy it
.
And btw it runs like a charm on an 7970m with the 15.4 beta drivers. Native 1080p around 50-80 fps with most settings to high with the exeption of the extra aa option and post processing (both settings increase the visual quality slighty but have an enormous impact on the performance in GTA V). So no need for a GPU upgrade from the greedy stinky green guys. It's just a shame that AMD probably won't give us any new mobile GPU's to play with until next year. -

I have just got to the Trevor section (was playing around a bunch before and driving along the coast)
I have to complete my water loop before I can use the titan-x as it has a nice nickel plated water block on it now

Don't want to be out of topic.. but are you all using Mr.Fox 345.20 drivers with GTA V?
If so... would you say that they're working alright?
Currently using the driver mention above with a clean win 8.1 install and I'm having some texture problems..
Which other driver would you recommend me to play GTA V? -
any news?
are u on gta v ?
are performance good? -
Finished is game 2 months ago. It ran well and was well worth it. I will make it a point to go through it again.
-
IMO both are awesome! But I liked Witcher 3 more, It plays nicely on my 980M with everything maxed out (+55FPS) + Nvidia Hairworks: off.
Turning NV Hairworks takes around 15-20FPS and brings fps to almost console level.
As for GTA, I'd say Rockstar did a fine job indeed optimizing the game. Lowest I get is 65 FPS (Everything on ultra, Grass high, FXAA, High-res shadows off, extended distance scaling off)Mr. Fox likes this. -
I believe NVidia's first GTA optimized driver was the 350.12 for Win7 & 8. I used 352.84 with Win10 and performance is Excellent.Nomad likes this.

In the end I got neither one. I used the $40 on other games and now I'm glad I did. I ended up buying two S.T.A.L.K.E.R. bundles (one for myself and the other as a birthday gift for one of my sons). I had purchased them on CD/DVD years ago, but I have moved as many of my games to Steam and Origin as possible because I don't care for optical media. Getting all three of these timeless classic titles in a bundle for under $20 per bundle was a steal.

Just finished the campaign on my new 15 with gtx980m. aa x4, grass at very high and one more thing at very high instead of ultra (can't remember what) got me around 50-60fps
-
i m curious:
is someone playng GTA V in 4K on LAPTOP? -
Yea i tried with my custom mod P377sma clevo
-
can someone tell me how to get open iv to detect the GTA5 exe file..??
i keep removing the READ ONLY from the options but it will only show the folders not the contents so it cant find the launcher...??? -
TNX!
it works perfect in 4k with your 980m!
Can you show settings at start of your next 4k video?and show FPS?
(GTA V has a lot of settings and it s hard to understand gpu's performance )
Good Gaming!
