Very likely never, unless somebody thinks it might be cute to make a BGA version of it, LOL. The only decent Alienware notebook available for purchase now is the 18. It is crippled in multiple ways and built with mostly obsolete components. Some people that ordered one many months ago have never received one.

If you want something truly awesome, you should be looking to Clevo for solutions. They are the only brand left that is offering truly amazing laptop hardware configurations, and they only have a couple of good options available in their product line. Besides offering far more powerful and fully upgradeable options, you can have the best notebook configuration available and be using it in a matter of days instead waiting for months and having to deal with unexplained order cancellations and broken promises. It hurts to have to make such a recommendation, but pretending everything is good would be dishonest.

Aorus thinks so, their X7 DT will feature a desktop GTX 980 in BGA form. Who knows, maybe Alienware will follow through in their AW17R4

The ASUS GX700 also uses a BGA GTX 980. It's not out of the realm of possibilities for Alienware, but it's currently very unlikely for a GTX 980 to be an option for one of their laptops.

Then MSI GT80-S, but it doesn't have a G-SYNC screen so it's not for me. Secondly, I personally don't like it because I hate a mechanical keyboard on a laptop, I have 9 cats and that thing would collect their fur so easily unlike the normal keyboards which have no room for any dirt/fur to go in.

Oh, one more thing, the trackpad on the MSI GT80-S is on the right, looks really weird to me and if you're left handed, you're out of luck.

The 6820HK BGA CPU is an instant turn-off that absolutely disqualifies the MSI from being eligible for consideration by a real performance enthusiast. It doesn't make any difference how fancy they make the rest of the machine, if it has a BGA CPU I won't touch it with a 10-foot pole. BGA always sucks unless you just want a cheap, disposable run-of-the-mill consumer turdbook. I don't even like the idea on a consumer platform, but if it's cheap enough, and expectations are low enough, it might be better than spending money on something even more pathetic, like a tablet PC.

Haha, Mr Fox's idea of a cute BGA'd to death 980 would be cute, but i dont actually think thats physically possible at all, the existing laptops having it in socketted form already had to have numerous power phases on the mobo, to actually make it BGA would be an engineering feat in itself. One of which we can all be assured that dell's r&d team will never undertake with the new leadership direction and all.
