Thanks to Benthedogtrainer for the picture![]()
Things needed for this:
My batch file
Ubuntu or Gparted Live CD or USB
Small edit
Infrarecorder
you need this to burn the Live CD
![]()
click that then select the iso to burn
Ubuntu is a whole linux operating system but is alot simpler to use.
Gparted is included in ubuntu so it will be the same either way.
First you need to execute this batch file
http://www.mediafire.com/?2gmaztuy2yj
Then you need to check and see if you have a 2 partition that looks like the OEM partition here
![]()
If yours looks a little different you can press CTRL + print screen keys and then go into PAINT and press CTRL + V then save it and post it here using a website named tinypic.com
Next you will need to boot off the USB or CD respectively.
For Gparted users
Once Gparted is loaded you will see a Gparted icon on the desktop Click it
For Ubuntu Owners you need to go to the following
System > Administrator > Partition Editor
![]()
Once there you should see this
![]()
YOU NEED TO RIGHT CLICK ON THE SMALLER OEM PARTITION
You will receive the following options :
![]()
Click manage flags as shown in the picture
then Click the check box for boot like so
![]()
then click close and then click apply if necessary
restart the computer and it should be prompted for you to push f10 for alienrespawn
If this doesn't work then let me know

What if you have 3 partitions, and one is named Recovery as seen below;
Do I do the same thing? or do I do it for the recovery partition? -
you do it for the recovery partition
-
K I'm burning the cd now... Will be done soon I'll run it and then come back here and say how it works ^^
-
It was alredy checked for boot so I checked this other one and made it on boot.
Also just a note on the ubuntu i just downloaded it's called Gparted under system and admin. -
Ah mine was a older one ... did it work?
-
Hm, did not work, as I said earlier I changed it to boot for a smaller partition named Dell Utility. It seemed to be only a debugger type thing for memory errors and stuff like that, I had to reboot from the cd before it would shutdown or it would continuously restart after I exit.
I put it back to the RECOVERY and restarted, nothing saying to push f10, pushing f10 did not bring up alienrespawn 2.0. -
hum ... maybe dell changed something ....
is there a button to apply changes?
it should have done it ..... so hard for me to test since i do not have it ...could not be changeing it into the MBR ... -
Nah it applies right after closing the window with check boxes, if it makes a difference, alienware has a fix for alien respawn for windows 7 that I've dled previous to this run it and it says it fails to edit some thing. If it is of no relevance then I wont bother finding out exactly what it says.

Just tried this and it works. I'm having problems with my wireless (stupid brodcom POS) and i tried doing a clean win7 install and I lost the prompt, tried this word for word and it worked on my new m17x
-
Heh heh sweet I guess ...
-
since it worked for him -
-
You don't install it you just Run it
burn it like I said in the first part ... -
-
Boot off of it
-
On my m15x it's f12 to get to the boot menu so you tap that a few times when it's booting and it'll pop up go down to cd. Be sure you have the cd in it before you choose cd.
I'll do a new 7 install maybe I did something wrong? -
Will reflashing the BIOS enable the prompt?
I did run Dell's fix after clean reinstall of W7 but it didn't help. -
No it will not enable it
windows when you install it rewrites the boot recored and disabled it because windows is retarded and they think they are the only os in the world !
Sorry Linux/windows user here -

Made the boot CD but it doesn't boot off CD when I restart it.
Merry X-mas! -
You Have To Set The Cd To Boot In Bios
-
I made the cd and did everything guide said. But now when I push f10 I go into a windows 7 boot menu.
looks like this.
Edit boot options
Edit windows boot options for: windows 7
Path: \windows\system32\winload.exe
partition: 3
Hard disk: d436600b
[ /noexecute= optin
I can write after optin aswell dont know what to do only have the options to esc and enter.
I used my windows 7 restore disk yesterday but now I believe I am stuck in stealth mode and I would just like to get the alienrespawn I have it in my partition just cannot view the files I will post pics now.

Ok sorry about that.
Need the moo to help with problem now lol. -
Or is there even a way to write the files in recovery to a disk and just like boot off of that?
The only problem is I can't see the files in recover like in pics above Please someone help me out thanks. -
They have changed the respawn again so this guide is for older machines. The newer ones are setup with a Dell utility.
-
Before this guide I was unable to get to my AlienRespawn 2.0 and I thank you much for taking the time to post this. Now I'm able to get to the AR2.0 however, when it starts up I get an Error. Now I'm not to good with this Error stuff and was unable to find anything to help me but maybe you can help. The error I get says
Edit:
The laptop is an M5550i-r3 Series that I bought back in 2007. (I'm not sure if that helps but I figure every little bit of information helps.)
Edit II:
I noticed that our Disk Management was somewhat different so I'll upload a picture of mine.
