i just bought an m9700 from a guy online, everything seems fine exept i cant get the cd drive to work. it spins and makes sound, but i cant see the disk from the my computer or run things in windows xp! also, i put in the recovery disk before i start it and it opens windows anyway, it cant see the disks! does anyone have any ideas? this guy seemed pretty good, i dont htink he was trying to scam me...
    thanks!

Edit: also, the disk drive doesn't show up in my computer even when i dont have a disk in it. maby a driver problem?...

EDIT: i just took a look at the device manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark on the dvd drive thing and somthing called the scsi cdrom device. it says that the driver may be corrupted or missing. i cant find any drivers for it on alienware! where are they?

    CD/DVD-rom does not required drivers.

    Tangent,

Unfortunately, there is no specific driver for optical drives, it is a generic one installed by windows. From the device mgr, right click on the drive and select to uninstall it then restart the system, windows should find the drive and install a suitable driver for it.
